Do people still throw rice??

Or is that just in the movies? Our venue does not allow rice, birdseed, or rose petals. We thought about bubbles, but I'm not too into handing out a bunch of little bubble containers for people to leave laying around and/or throw away (I hate waste). What are you doing, or should I say guest doing,...

What are you doing, or should I say guest doing, as you walk down the aisle as the new Mr. & Mrs.? I think I'm going with just clapping..or is that boring?

I thought jasmine seeds or something were supposed to be an alternative to birdseed?

I was going to do bubbles, I think they look really nice actually...

The rice being harmful to birds is actually a myth. The reason most places ban the rice is because its a disaster to clean up. I've seen people do bubbles, butterfly and balloon releases. All of which are adorable.

I thought about people throwing oats/grain at us...until I realized our families would be a little TOO eager to clean it up and take it home as feed, lol. Looking at bubbles or wands. Another idea I had was paper punches (from making 3-hole punches in things) in a variety of colors. Its biodegradable and inexpensive. We could even punch a variety of shapes.

This doesnt help with the question, but throwing rice is not harmful to birds in any way. It was a rumor started by the wedding industry to keep their property clean and then to promote more expensive things to throw.

Here is a list of other items to use though:

    Blow bubbles

Toss flower petals (rose, hydrangea, jasmine, daisy)

    Release doves

    Throw confetti

    Pop party streamers

    Release butterflies

    Ring mini wedding bells

    Toss birdseed or dried berries

    Throw rice paper

    Wave sparklers

    Spray silly string

    Throw popcorn

    Raise candles

    Release balloons

    Toss potpourri

My venue's rules-no throwing anything (rice or petals because they are hard to clean up and since I'm getting married in a garden they are worried seeds could take root and mess up their planning). I wasn't planning on doing anything but the clapping because it always seems like more of a hassel when I've seen it done.

Tinsel wands look like sparklers in photos.
