We ended up registering for a set that could work for just a chill dinner at home or a fancy family dinner depending on the occasion.

Kinda like a tshirt dress what you can wear when you just need to throw something on and go but looks cute with some heels and accessories.

I was initially hesitant to register for fine China as I didn't think it would get much use, but then I changed my mind for several reasons.

    1) I envision my family and I sitting around a table in 20 years eating thanksgiving or Christmas dinner using a beautiful set of China.

    2) Chances are, I would never buy China myself, so I figured this was the best opportunity I had to get some.

    3) While I do not have room for it now, that will hopefully not always be the case.

    4) I also registered for every day plates

    5) the worst that can happen is no one buys it for me.

I'm a bit traditional and every holiday at my grandparent's, we would eat off of their fine China. Unfortunately, when they passed away, we had to sell it. But it's still something I would love to do one day with my family.

We registered for the Lenox federal gold set but opted for cheaper plain white serving dishes that matched well (I couldn't justify a $200 gravy boat) we also registered for everyday dishes. In my family, we use china for all holidays and special dinners so it was something I knew I wanted.

It's totally up to you. I have China I inherited, but otherwise I don't think I would have registered for it

Yes, people still register for china. No, we were definitely not those people. We attended a wedding 6 months ago where the couple had china, something called holiday china, and everyday plates. They were gifted all sets. We have been to their home atleast 4 times since (including holiday parties) for parties and have only been served on paper plates. I'm team no china.

I didn't. We host a LOT--say dinner parties/game nights of 6-15 people every six weeks or so--and we've never used anything fancy.

We did register for additional sets of our every day dishes since we currently have to do paper plates every time we inch above 8 people.

I plan on registering for China. I like to have my dining room set and good China, silverware, glassware and napkins are on my list.

We're getting hand-me-down china from my FH's great grandmother. I'm really excited for it, but only because it has meaning. I would not have registered for it. Only daily plates will be on my registry!

I am sure I will never use China in my life - I never have before, I don't know why that would change now.

We registered for 12 place settings of really nice dishes for every day.

I would love to register for China, because I love to host and hope we can host lots of formal family holidays in the future.

Unfortunately though we will spend at least the first year or two living in downtown Chicago and it just doesn't make sense for us to put anything on the list that will mostly sit in storage for the foreseeable future. Smiley sad

That really up to your choice of China or regular wear.
