Do i Postpone my December Wedding ?

Liza, on July 17, 2020 at 7:20 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

The wedding is Dec 13, 2020. I wasn’t worried at all until recently and now I’m freaking out. It’s going to be in the greater Orlando area, but the problem is our guest list is 80% out of state— not exaggerated. With Florida’s high numbers, part of me wants to push through and whoever comes, comes. But this means that even members of the bridal party may not attend. If we postpone, it would be a “renewal”. But I’m not sure if COVID will be better by spring anyway, which is when we would like. If it’s any later than spring, I’m worried we’ll already be on the next chapter. SOS!!!!

I would recommend securing a backup date now, and decide by October whether to postpone. If you decide to go forward with everything for this year, you could always live stream the ceremony for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable attending, as well as take precautions (masks, hand sanitizer, distanced ceremony and reception seating, etc) for those who do attend. With so many of your guests coming from out of state, I would anticipate that many would decline to attend if COVID is still a large threat by then, so having a live stream would allow them to not miss the ceremony. Otherwise, if having everyone there is important to you, I would probably postpone.

We are meant to be getting married in December 12 but it looks like we will be postponing - we can have 150 people but no mingling, dancing, singing etc so we are currently looking to postpone Smiley sad

Florida currently has one of the highest numbers of Covid cases in the country so I would highly recommend having a backup date in mind. With 80% of our guests traveling out of state, I think the decline rate could be exceptionally high.

It's still so hard to know what things will look like in December, but I understand your concerns Liza! It's impossible to predict where local hot spots might happen but like you said - I think some social distancing measures will be with us potentially through spring next year (or longer).

I'd check your contract to see what rescheduling might look like, and if there are any significant financial deadlines you should keep an eye on! You could also start talking with your venue about if and how you can downsize your expected number of total guests.

Here are a few other discussions from December brides you should join as well: To surrender to Covid or hold on....?, Another Covid Post, and December brides!

    Hi there!
My wedding is 12-20-2020!! I’m still sticking to my date and not changing! Positive thoughts and everything will come together. If anything wait until October to make a final decision! I think we will be okay for December Smiley smile

Thank you for your response. I agree-- I definitely need to choose what's the MOST important to my fiance and I and then go from there.

We’re most unsure about how soon we should postpone (ie do we do it now or try hold on until our vendors tell us people have enquired about our back up dates) but the way we see it is neither of us need a VISA (both citizens of our country) so there isn’t any huge detriment if we postpone, other than having to be a little more patient.
