Do I need to register for both white wine and red wine glasses?

Private User, on January 2, 2015 at 7:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I am going over my registry and it has more things than I would like to have on the list. (and we are hoping for more cash, not gifts) I am the type of person who likes to go with formality and think about traditions, but I am not sure that I will need to register for both red wine and white wine glasses (we are also registering for champagne flutes). If you have any wisdom on this area, please let me know! Thank you!

If you drink wine or keep any in the house for guests, yes, u should have both. They are shape differently.. red wine is usually served room temp, white wine is served chilled. im not an expert in wines but i know theres a reason why the shape of the glass is different.

I'm a wine drinker, but I've never been affronted at receiving the wrong glass when I go to a friend's house. I'd say register for what you'll use. If you drink mostly white, register for white wine glasses. Ditto for red.

If you are a wine aficionado, then you might enjoy having the different type of glasses. Otherwise I don't think its worth it. We drink wine and enjoy trying different types, but we only have red wine glasses. It wasn't worth it to us to get the different kinds.

I'm with Erica. If you're planning to entertain a lot, possibly, but don't register for a lifestyle you don't have. I got dozens of very expensive wine glasses in all sizes (and i do love the ones that are left...) but you're not going to morph into Martha Stewart after you get married; you'll be you, except married, and with more stuff.

Register for a nice size stemmed goblet, (which the experts are starting to use for champagne too....) and end it!

If you enjoy wine, entertain, and/or have the storage space, you may as well register for both types.

I bought mine at the dollar store so when people get really drunk, I don't care if they get broken lol

Good point Alexis; I just bought a whole boat load of them at Dollar tree for the holidays (so of course no one broke any of them....) and they were really nice; heavy, pretty, and practically disposable....

I wouldn't bother with both kinds. DH and I love wine (mostly red) and have been on a bunch of winery tours, tastings etc., and we still only own one kind of wine glass. I'm not sure which kind it is.

But we also refrigerate our red wine (DH says that's how the French do it, too).

Oh I'm usually freaking out when someone breaks my stuff. So when they break a wine glass and I'm like, "No really it's cool!" I think they think I'm on drugs lol

The dollar store idea is definitely a good one!

We drink a lot of wine and like using nice glasses, so we just registered for extra of everything. 16 glasses/plates instead of 12 (in case of drunken breakages!)

I didn't know there was a difference. Hell I drink out the bottle at times, but I'm a special kind of classy.

There's more than 2 different types of wine glasses. There's white wine, red wine, champagne, champagne flutes, bordeaux, brandy, etc.

You really do not need to register for both red and white wine glasses. Unless of course you plan on hosting a lot of parties and serve wine a lot. Other wise it really is not nessasary. One simple wine glass thst will work for both is good. Hope that helps!!

Thank you ladies for all your help! I couldn't bare myself to register for all of those, but I stumbled upon the exact same looking ones (of course it's a knock off, but who cares?) for 4 glasses for $10. I'm deleting both glasses off of my list as we speak Smiley smile Thanks for your help and a great laugh from reading your comments! Smiley winking
