My fiance and I are getting married in downtown DC in June '10: the church and reception site are just 2.5 blocks apart. While we're providing transportation for our wedding party and our grandmothers (e.g. those who aren't physically able to make the walk), my family is convinced we need to provide a bus to transport people from the church to the reception. I think this is completely unnecessary, as 99% of our friends and family are in great health and, quite honestly, will probably love strolling leisurely from the church to the hotel so they can see a bit of the city and catch up with out-of-town relatives. We are encouraging our guests to park at the hotel and walk to the church, as the church only has street parking which will probably be tough to come by. Of course it's a drag that the church has no parking lot, but I am afraid that people will be completely annoyed if they get on a bus to go for a whopping 2 minute ride. Would love some help with this one!
