Do I need a petticoat & what accessories?

Jessica, on November 30, 2016 at 8:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

When I first tried my dress on, it felt like there were a million layers and I wouldn't need a slip at all, but now that I'm looking at how big ball gowns typically are, I'm wondering if I should get a petticoat?

My only concern is that it will make the dress too short in the front since it is the perfect height for me to wear flats in now.

I'm also wondering if anyone has any opinions on what accessories would work with my dress. I'm getting a plain, cut-edge two-tier veil, but I'm not sure yet about jewelry. I don't want anything to be too much because of how embellished the dress is-- do you think just earrings would be good?

I love your dress! I don't think it needs anything. As far as jewelry, I still haven't gotten mine so no advice there, lol.

@Candice why do you hate them-- are they annoying to wear or you don't like the look of them?

    Thanks ladies!

You should be fine without a petticoat. IMO they don't make that much of a difference. I was going to get one for my dress, but the alterations lady told me not too because it is already full and big on its own. If you can go without it go for it. They also they can get kind of expensive.

Earrings sound great and maybe a bracelet! How will you wear your hair?

I personally love big ball gowns so I would add a petticoat to that. You can find one on eBay for dirt cheap. I also love bling, I would add blingy earrings and a bling necklace lol. But that's just me.

@MeganM I'm leaning towards half up or down with big curls and the one side clipped back

And that poof! How often do you get to wear a giant ball gown? I think petticoats add structure to a lot of gowns. I would wear one.

I would add a petticoat. I am also in the can't be to pouffy crowd. Can you walk in your dress with out stepping on the front?

Try your dress on with a few different crinolines. See if you like the look and if it makes too much of a length difference. Then make your decision. I hear you can get them in expensively on Amazon. I got mine in a consignment shop.

    All great suggestions, thank you!

Yes I can walk without stepping on the front right now, the length is perfect.. that's why I was worried any added material might make it too short!

It already looks like your dress has some sparkle so I would keep the jewels light unless it's a super fancy wedding

I added a crinoline to mine, but it didn't have nearly as much layering as your does. I would say that it looks good how it is, remember the more you add the more space around you that people will need to be aware of and you as well in regards to mot catching it on things.

I wore a ball gown slip. I only wore it because my dress' layers prevented me from being able to walk without it. It was a very comfortable slip!

I used to work at David's. All of the stylists always recommended slips underneath because they said the dress may go between your legs while walking. Don't know how true that is, but I am wearing one
