Do i need a dj for our only dinner reception?

Jasmine, on July 25, 2020 at 4:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
I am going back and forth in my mind and cannot decide what would be best. Our ceremony will be at his church and they have their own music team for our wedding. Afterwards our guests will drive to a separate location for the reception. Being socially awkward and shy, plus being a smaller wedding (60) I don't really want announced when we arrive. The plan is to have our guests enjoy a cocktail hour while we do pictures, then once we arrive we will have dinner, cake, and then say our good byes. The only music I think we will need is more "background" music since there will be no dancing or games. Could I just make a playlist and have the reception place play it over their speakers? I feel it would be weird to have a DJ. I've debated on a live musician, but I just don't know if that makes sense either?

I think it’s fine to skip the dj in this case

If it’s just for background music I think speakers are fine.

Awesome! Both of our families are very social amongst themselves so I know they will happily chat away with one another during the cocktail hour.

In your situation having background music is fine. No DJ is needed since there’s no dancing or a party atmosphere.

This is basically what we are doing! Our ceremony and reception will be at the same venue and we will have a live string quartet for our ceremony and cocktail hour. Our reception will only be like 2hrs long (introvert here!!) No dancing, just dinner dessert and small program. My fiance and I will have a playlist in the background for the reception!

I agree with the previous answers others. Just think of your expectations when you eat at a restaurant.

Totally fine! For our DW of 15 guests, we had a soloist during cocktail hour and switched to a playlist during our dinner-only reception.

If you're just going to eat with no dancing or other activities afterward, skip the dj. You can set up a Spotify/Pandora/iTunes playlist for background ambience.

In your case I wouldn't pay the money for a DJ. I would just play the background music on the speakers like you said.
