Do I need a card box?

Rebecca, on April 7, 2012 at 9:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I have been seeing everyone post there card boxes. We are having a destination wedding taking a cruise and while in port in Nassau getting married. There will be about 30 people attending. (Going on the cruise) Do I need a card box at our ceremony or reception location? I am unsure if I should have one. What's your thoughts

It'd be nice to have just in case, you wouldn't want to carry around cards all day or have to run and put them somewhere safe. I'd either make a small simple one or go to Orientaltrading.com and get an inexpensive one. That way if it's not used you didn't waste a bunch of money on it. Or you could have someone you trust collect cards, if guest hand you a card just go give it to that person and have them hang onto them (in a purse or inside jacket pocket) until the end of the night. If you do have a cardbox have it set up at the reception.

I would still have one at the reception. Particularly because it's a DW you will probably get cards. It's just going to be easier for your guests to know where to put them, and for you to have everything in one place.

A small one would be a great choice. I like Cyndi's suggestion of getting a cheap one from orientaltrading. Sign up for their emails and get discounts. I just made an order a few days back and used a free shipping code! : )

With such a small wedding, you will be able to greet and talk with all your guests.

It is an Italian tradition to just have a little white card purse. That way when you greet your guests you have someplace to put the card. Then, the oldest female family member guards the purse.

I would do some form of cardbox or formal way of keeping them all together at least ~ we went to a DW where there was none, the bride said she would take the card and thanked us for it but then promptly lost it and later couldn't recall us ever giving it to her. There was $300 cash in there. Smiley sad Which leads me to my unrelated point that I write checks now, I don't put cash in envelopes at weddings anymore. Smiley sad

I would get a card purse since you are having a small wedding. My venue supplied our bird cage for all our cards

Hayley always have such good ideas.

You want to have somethiing to hold or keep the cards in, you don't want to loose them, or for the guest to forget to give them to you. I love Hayley's idea for the purse for a wedding like yours. At least with the purse you wont need anyone to keep an eye on it, it will be with you at all times.

While not the OP, thanks! I have a DW wedding too. I just ordered one from Oriental Trading for $5.00.

Our family does have a tradition and we have this huge 3-foot tall, 40-pound wishing well (with lock) that is used at all our weddings. I'll use it at the home reception, but we're not lugging it to Florida! Smiley smile

Cards often mean money, so many guest like to hand them to the couple. Its a great way to chat and thank them for coming. With a small group such as your and a destination wedding I would go with the purse. Congrats and best of luck to you

I agree with Hayley C. to carry a card, since it is a small reception. Plus you will get to greet each guest and personally thank them for their presence. I plan on having a purse made by one of the ladies at church.
