Do i actually need to buy my dress 8 months before?

Ashley, on August 23, 2019 at 1:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hey guys!

I am getting married on May 2nd, 2020, and I JUST started dress shopping today.. I'd like to get my dress in October ideally due to having way too much stuff to do until then. Is it too late to buy my dress on October? Will I have to pay the "rush fee" for most of them? If so, how much are they?

It really depends on where you are getting your dress from. Some places like David’s can taken3-6 months. (I have yet to hear of it taking that long) most places are right in that 5 month ish range. Ask the place you are thinking of ordering from if you have an idea.

My dress came 4 months to come in. I didn't shop until about 6.5 months before.

I bought my dress 10months out, we weren’t planning too but it was the last of its kind so we did it earlier than we needed too. l

I bought mine about 10 months out, and I think it came in less than 3 months. I went dress shopping with a friend recently who's getting married in May, and she ended up picking a dress from last season that fit her well off the rack, so she picked it up like 2 days later. You definitely give yourself more options if you shop sooner rather than later, but you should still be able to find a dress if you wait - just make sure wherever you're shopping knows your timeline.

I got married this last May, and I bought my dress early September 2018 and it came in February 2019. They said 6 months time, it came in 5 months!
There are pros and cons to going earlier vs later. Obviously you'll get it knocked off the list but lots of people spend time after being their dress looking at other dresses then experience dress regret.

Definitely check with whatever boutique you want to go through to see what’s standard for them. Six months seems typical, but the wait may be longer or shorter depending on the dress. Don’t forget to build in time for alterations.

It depends on the designer. I had a Martina Liana dress and it took 7 months to come in.

I bought my dress in the beginning of March and it arrived 2 days ago. It really depends on the designer. It you’re buying from somewhere like DB, it won’t take as long as most designer gowns.

I ordered my dress November 1st and it came in March 23rd. It wasn't supposed to come in until May. Some brands take longer than others. Mine was Stella York and they told me it would be around 6 months for my specific dress. My alterations tool 4 weeks, so you'll need to plan for that too. I started them 6 weeks before my wedding.

I'm getting married May 3, 2020 and I start dress shopping tomorrow! I'm no expert, but I like to think that unless you're buying from a high end designer, I don't think it should take more than a few months or six months max. All the past brides I know only took 3-4 months for their dresses. I'm not sure I'll find my dress tomorrow, but if not I'm not worried. I would like to have it picked out no later than the end of October.

Yes! A dress can take 6-9 months to arrive (they seem to come in faster from David’s Bridal and BHLDN from what I’ve read). Mine took 8 months and I was stressing.

Start shopping. Rush design can be $150-$250+ plus shipping which can be $100+ depending on where/how it ships.

I bought my dress from David's Bridal in January, and it came in like a week later... it really just depends on the store, their stock, and the designer. I went shopping 12 months early mostly because I was moving out of state and I really wanted to go dress shopping with my mom and sister before I left... I was also happy to get that part out of the way.

It depends where you get your dress, your size and maker of the dress. I purchased my dress mid September and it came in mid April. Than you also have to factor in fittings and just incases Smiley smile lol

I got my dress from David's. I ordered it the middle of May, and it was there less than 2 weeks later.

I got my dress from David's Bridal. They told me 2-3 months. It came in exactly 2 months after I ordered it.

I ordered my dress about 5 months out and had no issues. I also didn't try on any dresses that wouldn't have been able to ship in that time frame. I would say 6 months-ish is totally fine. You can also shop plenty of off the rack options - you can take home same day.

I bought my dress in mid-January for my May 4th wedding. I did have to pay a rush fee, and my dress (a Justin Alexander) came in in early February. My veil took longer to come in than my dress!

Check out BHLDN! My dress was in stock in my size so it arrived in 2 days.
