DJ canceled a month before!!

Olivia , on February 11, 2017 at 6:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

My wedding is March 11 this year. My Dj just canceled this week. Im kind of in a panic. Most Djs now will cost extra because of late notice. Our back up plan is to create our own playlist. Do any of you have any ideas?

Maybe you can make a playlist that will work for part of it and just hire a dj for a few hours? They're technically there to read the room and see how people feel to determine songs. It could be really difficult and stressful to make a whole playlist on your own!

DJs shouldn't cost extra because of late notice. I'm sure if they have availability they'd do it. What happened with your other DJ? I hope he refunded your deposit! Can he recommend someone else for you?

I'd avoid going the playlist route. DJs do more than just play music. They really keep the reception going and I think they're necessary.

I'm sure you can find a dj. Where are you located?

    Good luck!

What does your contract say? A DJ normally cannot cancel without providing a replacement or your entire amount back. How much were you paying?

I've never heard of a DJ charging more for late notice. And you should be getting your money back, because you had a contract right?

Let's get to the root of this first....WHY did the DJ cancel? Did you already sign a contract and pay a retainer? If the answer is no to the last questions, you need to look at how you are vetting providers. Because budget is as budget does. Pros don't bail.

March 11th is an off season date...at least here in the Maryland/DC/VA area. if anything, if a DJ is open 30 days out like this, they will be willing to offer a lower price to book the date than they typically quote. I have DJs available on March 11th if your wedding is in my area! Your DJ should have had a Substitute DJ available, or be willing to find a sub for himself for your wedding. Contact me if you need help

That really sucks that you lost your DJ. But don't freak out! I can almost guarantee that not every DJ is your area is booked on some random Saturday in March. And if someone tries to charge you extra because the event is coming up in a few weeks, you should laugh in his or her face. At this point they can be relatively sure they aren't going to pick up another gig on that day, so if anything they should be willing to cut you a hell of a deal. Good luck!
