DIY Wedding Invites: LCI vs. Cards and Pockets

Marlene, on April 27, 2012 at 3:48 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Hi all,

After getting a few outrageous quotes for wedding invites, I started to look into doing some DIY pocketfolds and like both LCI and Cards and Pockets. Have any of used and prefer one over another? I don't want to spend money on getting samples from both companies. I got a quote from one company for 75 DIY invitations with the same card as Envelopments and was quoted $860!! Needless to say, I'm thinking it's a little high for just paper that I still have to put together myself...

I used cards and pockets. Their customer service was really good, our orginal sample was wrong and they got us the corrected sample within 2 days. The quality was really nice as well.

Did you print from them too or print at home? I really don't want to print at home, not sure if a local printer would be better. The info out there is a little overwhelming ;/

What style of invitation are you interested? Do you have an example? With that I can better direct you which way to go with those companies if you choose to DIY. $860 is too much for 75. But I will be glad to help you with getting a much better quote.

My experience with Cards and Pockets has been pretty furstratiung. I started out thinking that I would have them print our pocketfold design and then get all of our supplies from them, but after about 15 emails back and forth and 4-5 unsuccessful calls (and 2.5 weeks of essentially wasted time), I decided to getting the printing done at Staples and order the materials from C&P. I placed the order for cardstock and pockets and they said it would arrive in 3-5 days. It arrived on the 6th day and my fiance and I took off work Friday and arranged for people to help us assemble and address them so we could get the invitations assembled and out by Monday. When the order arrived Thursday, the pocketfolds were Quartz colored (white) instead of the Onyx (black) color that we ordered. The new pockets are being sent at the slowest s/h rate and they seem more concerned with us getting the wrong pockets back to them than with correcting the order. I have heard good things about www.paperandmore.com

I ordered several samples and then our pocketfolds and matting from C&P and had no issues at all. Didn't have them do any printing or mounting for me though!

I only used C&P to order envelopes, but I had no problems either time. My DIY pockets were probably a little less formal that most would like, but I loved them. And we had the information printed on postcards through Vista Print.

The RSVP postcards were the only thing in the pocket.

We used Cards & Pockets, and had them do the printing. The reason was that we had heard that it was often hard to line up small cards so that they would print correctly. The recommended approach if you wanted to print things yourself was to print first, then cut. However, we were nervous about doing both printing and cutting. It was easier just to have them already cut and printed before we got them. And I will say, C & P did a very nice job on both the printing and cutting.
