diy Outside vs. All Service Venue

Kayla, on January 3, 2020 at 8:50 PM Posted in Planning 1 8
Hi Ladies!!

My fiance and I have a slim budget...which do you think would be most cost efficient...an outside backyard wedding....you have to rent tent, tables, chairs, caterer, ect. Or a venue that offers all services??

Hiring an all-inclusive venue is wayyyy easier but usually also wayyyy more expensive. They require you to use all their services so there's no way to cut costs where you otherwise could. If you want the most cost-effective then 100% go with the DIY route!

DIY is actually not always cheaper. There are tons of posts on here about people who thought a backyard wedding would be cheaper until they actually looked at the costs of renting silverware, flatware, tables, glassware, possibly bathrooms (depending on how many guests you are planning to have, regular home plumbing won't cut it), etc. I would research everything before making the decision.

Get a venue! On a backyard wedding you have to pay so much money for the non-fun stuff (tables, chairs, toilets, lighting). Ugh. To save money, you can have your wedding on a non-Saturday night, or even a weekend brunch wedding.

It depends on your local average costs.

We got married in NYC, which you *think* would be cheaper to DIY.... but most venues that were not all inclusive charged so much just for the space, we went with a full service venue.

You'll need to price it out in your area.

Keep in mind that all inclusive includes wages for servers/cooks/coordinators/etc., on top of the food, chairs, linens, tables, settings, set up, and much, much more that we don't even think about.
