DIY Invitations from Michaels?

I just started looking into wedding invitations and I am shocked at how much they cost! I am new to wedding planning so I was naïve to think "oh wedding invitations are around $1.00/ $1.50 each so it will cost me about $100-$150..." I have no idea that you then had to buy reception cards, rsvp...

I just started looking into wedding invitations and I am shocked at how much they cost! I am new to wedding planning so I was naïve to think "oh wedding invitations are around $1.00/ $1.50 each so it will cost me about $100-$150..." I have no idea that you then had to buy reception cards, rsvp cards, etc. Silly me I thought it was a packaged deal for $1.00!

I am inviting about 200 people to my wedding so I am going to need around 100 invitations. I found an invite that I LOVED but after adding everything together it was about $700.00! That is not in my budget!

I went to Michaels and they have really cute wedding packages for 39.99 and of course I would the 40% off coupon so it would be very affordable! About $100 for 100 invites. My question is has anyone used these before? Or printed your own?

I am finishing up our invitations to send out this week. I used ones from Gartner Studios. Totally Idiot proof lol! If you go to gartner's website they have templates that let you see your writing with a watermark of the design. It saves as a blank pdf (with just the writing) and then you print. A plus is that (at least the flat invitations) are a standard 5x7 (with a perforated sheet of 2 RSVP/Info cards) so no dealing with custom paper sizes.

The couple people that I showed my mock-up to thought we had them professionally printed!

They carry Gartner Studios at Michaels and also some in stores at Target (from their Brides collection). By far the easiest time I have ever had with printing any invites.

So my answer may not be the popular choice but I got blank cards from Target and printed them on my parents printer. I made my own template since the cards were an odd shape. Total cost with postage for 28 invitations (60 guests) was around $30. My RSVP is online.

I bought Wilton brand invitations on a road trip from Toronto to Buffalo NY, at Jo-Ann. They had a 50% off coupon that weekend, and also accept competitor's coupons. The cashier applied them both (almost never allowed to do this in Canada!), and I bought 100 invitations for just shy of $40 USD - I was very happy with them, but was really surprised how many compliments I got on them from friends and family!

I bought wilton invites at the wilton tent sale. $200 for 200 invites. I just added some rhinestones and they are super elegant tho inexpensive. I couldn't justify paying a lot of money for something ppl throw out

I bought these at Michaels and added the lace and flower. Not done yet but just an idea.

I used Michael's invites, rsvp and reception/direction cards also. Just like Karebear said we chose the font and wording and then I printed them up on my Canon printer. They were very easy.

I definitely did not want to spend a ton on invites. I did the Hobby Lobby biweekly 50% off sale and got the kit. Total of 75 invites for about $45, then printed them myself. The kit I bought didn't have the detail cards, but I just got linen paper to match and did that part myself and that was cheap. I know I spent way less than what I would have spent having them done professionally and I am super happy with how they turned out.

I did the Michael's invitations and they turned out great. It took a couple hours to do all the printing, then another couple hours or so to put them together and address/stamp them. I sent around 70 invites out of the 80 from the 2 packages. I would recommend them, they are easy, cheap, and I liked the way mine looked. Honestly it cost more to mail them than it did to buy them.

I got ours from Joann fabrics and used a 60% off coupon. I purchased 4 boxes of 25 for $40.00. And then I bought the belly bands for about $19.99, can't remember and ribbon from Michael's. I used my inkjet at home and printed them. They cost $.71 to mail

I bought two kits at Party City so 50 invites for $40 and they came out great plus since I didn't use the direction and reception cards I will use those as thank you cards I just need to find envelopes that they fit in which shouldn't be too hard.

I got mine from Joann's! And they always have coupons, so I saved A LOT. The packages that I got were $25 originally, and I just waited for the coupons for 40-60% off and bought them. It was super easy, and you can have them say exactly what you want, and what fonts etc. without too many decisions to make (they give you templates). It was super cheap and easy, plus got a ton of compliments on them!
