DIY beautiful gift for parents of bride ...or groom ...great deal and EASY!

Mrs. Noble, on January 9, 2013 at 11:25 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I got this idea from something I saw on Etsy, and decided to make it myself. It is pretty easy too! I decoupaged (bottle of original Mod Podge - $5) cut up special paper ($0.70) onto wood ($5 - I had coupon) and I will attach the small frame ($3? it was on sale) for wedding picture! I also plan to glue a picture or two of me as a little girl, off to the side. I used black acrylic paint ($1.79) to paint the sides.

Where did you get the wood from? It looks like a picture frame with the black boarder...?

Looks really sweet and nicely done!!

I wrote a reply and it disappeared so here it goes again... I got my wood from Jo-Ann's and painted the sides black. I think that a lot of art stores have similar stuff, like AC Moore, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. It was marked at $9.99 but I had a good coupon. I want to make one for Steve's parents too but I've not bought the 2nd piece of wood yet! I hadnt tried to decoupage in a really long time, but I remember my grandmother taught it to me when I was about 12. It is easy but can be complicated if not done correctly, so I'll warn you to be cautious of wrinkles and bubbles... I watched this YouTube video for memory refresher, because it had been so long since I'd done it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGNsRu_3KLI This seems helpful, but I probably should have allowed it to dry overnight, I suppose because I ended up with a little bubble.

The paper looks the same all over, but I actually cut it up and collaged it together. I'm happy with how it turned out!

My inspiration is from "YourPictureStory" on Etsy... beautiful work but I didn't want to pay that much.

The background is on wood... my camera is just a piece of junk! Smiley smile

Here is a picture of the corner of it, so you can see what sort of wood I meant!

I love that idea!! Did you just hand write on the wood (your message)?

This is the other DIY I want to do! I saw a similar idea from a different Etsy seller, but don't want to hand write it (mine isn't "pretty" enough, in my opinion.)

When you say special paper, what do you mean? Is it scrapbook paper? Vellum paper? Details!! Smiley laugh

Yes, I hand wrote it with a Sharpie marker. I originally wanted to use calligraphy marker (I'm pretty good at it) but that won't hold up to the Mod Podge sealant! I just made another one for hime to hive to his parents, but says "groom... husband... boy..." Smiley smile

This is one I made for him to give his parents! (I made him sign it, haha!) I'm going to add a little hockey print border, even though the colour won't quite match... as well as a couple of small pictures from childhood in the blank areas. We will give them the empty black frame along with the boards, which I will attach hangers to, and directions to insert a wedding picture and carefully mount with wood glue.
