DIY Appetizers...sort of

Nicole, on July 20, 2017 at 6:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 47

Our caterer does not do appetizers, so we are on our own. We have a Costco membership & we can get some great stuff there a few days before the wedding (such as the pic below). But I wanted to check with u ladies to see if u had any better ideas. I don't want to make anything (which makes this not exactly DIY), I'd prefer to just pick it up from somewhere without the hassle of making it myself. What are your suggestions??? Thanks, lovelies!!! <3

Why can't your caterer do appetizers? I would have chosen a different caterer....

How long will the guests be there before dinner is served?

ETA: I agree with the other ladies.

@RM & OliviaP - We are sticking with our caterer. I'm just looking for suggestions with DIY appetizers. Thank u!

@MTMS9917 - about a half hour, maybe a little more, depending upon pictures.

Doesn't look like you have yime to change catering. How many people are you having? Salami and cheese is more a midnight snack to me and not for a wedding, but thats just me.

They're going to need more than crackers and cheese to munch on especially if they're going to be having wine/alcohol when they arrive. Why are you unwilling to change the caterer?

Could you get a different company just to help with the appetizers? It is odd that your caterer doesn't offer them.

I would get a different caterer. Why would you hire someone who doesn't do appetizers?

That's a fine spread if you are having less than 10 guests and the cocktail space is small.

I'm not super creative but you could always do fruit and veggie platters, or small sandwiches, or different kinds of dips?

I think you could find a place to deliver some apps. If only half hour you shouldn't need much, some snacks while waiting to be seated. Fruit, dips, maybe some minor sandwich type stuff should be easy to get.

I am ordering from a BBQ place and we are getting a variety of apps from the local grocery store, cheese and cracker platters, little sandwiches, fruit, etc.

I think depending on wedding size you would obviously need a couple more choices such as veggie or fruit trays but if you have a caterer with a nice meal, as a guest I would be perfectly fine with the trays as cocktail hour food!

    I don't get a caterer who doesn't do apps.

Oh wait. I do. You've got BBQ and that's all they do.....

So I know you said you don't want to make anything. But, caprese salad skewers. I make them for get togethers all the time. Our catering is BBQ and they are doing caprese skewers for us.

Check your local grocery store's catering department. They should have different kinds of appetizer trays.

I am doing platters from Publix. Little pinwheel type wraps, vegetables, etc. Just seems easier to me. Our caterer is a bbq place and do not do apps either.

If you have a chic Fla in your area why not get a couple of trays of fried and grilled nuggets and some fruit trays.

Can you add a second caterer for the apps?
