WR: Wedding Drama - My family has it. (WARNING: Really long rant...)

Miya, on October 18, 2010 at 4:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 44

Not mine but my younger brother's wedding drama. I have to warn you ladies, to read this at your own risk. My brother is an epic douchebag.

.

Let's call my bro S and his fiancée M. S met M around the time our youngest brother was graduating from university and he went home to the Philippines for a two week vacay. After a week he was "engaged".

.

Let me backpedal for you guys a bit - My bro had a GF at the time when he went on vacay. A GF of 3 long years who lived here in the SF Bay Area (while he was stationed in San Diego). Apparently things were going downhill around that time because she had maxed out a credit card he gave her and he wanted out.

.

Before he got back from his vacation, he sent an email to his SF GF's bestfriend and told her to tell his GF not to pick him up at the airport. Well, she never got the message because she showed up the night he was coming back via SF at the Arrivals terminal. She was all excited (the poor thing) and he nonchalantly asked her to (cont.)...

... sit down cause he needed to tell her something. Well, she didn't notice that he was wearing a "commitment" ring but it all sank in when he told her "I got engaged".

    .

WHACK! She smacked him across the face right there and then and just completely lost it. I can't say I blame the girl though. I mean, that's just a whole new epic level of cheating right there... Anyway, she left him there at the airport and he took the train to come stay with me until the next day when he'd catch his flight to San Diego...

    .

Fast forward to today, it's been 2-2.5 years since my bro and M got engaged. The wedding has been postponed and moved 3 times all because my bro "can't make the date". I forgot to mention, my bro is in the US Navy so obivously he had some deployments going on being assigned to a submarine but still, there were occasions where he could have come home to get married but just didn't. ...Since the day of their engagement and commitment ceremony (2-2.5 years ago), M moved into my parents house and they started sending her to college. Her mother was killed, 6 years prior at work when a disgruntled employee decided to go postal on City Hall and her father abandoned her and her two younger brothers after the incident (having gone slightly mad/crazy/cuckoo). She quit high school to start working and support her two brother so they could go to school. My aunt's husband (who was M's uncle), put a roof over her head and kinda looked after her.

    .

Anyway, kudos to her for doing all that. That's something my parents and my bro admired in her. She was a simple girl who did what had to be done to survive. With her engagment to my bro, she basically went from complete third-world poverty to an American expat comfy lifestyle.

    .

Now, to the drama portion: The past year or so, she's completely changed. While my brother was on deployment, she was trashing him on FB on her status...

... messages for not keeping in touch as often as he should. Well, duh. When you're a submarine it's kinda hard to text message/call/email EVERY damn day. On the days that he did get in touch with her, she'd go bananas over some little thing like how some girl posted on his FB wall or she read an email (cause she had access to his first email account) from an old gal pal.

    .

After her fits of anger, she'd then go into an emo fit where she'd tell my brother she was going to kill herself because of what he was putting her through. Erm, okay. I don't know exactly what it is she expects when her and my bro have a relationship as deep as a bottle of ink. Anyway, her suicide threats are absolute BS (she's not serious). Imagine listening to a cross of Linkin Park and Evanescene lyrics, yeah, she's about as serious as they are.

    .

It's absolutely annoying when she goes into this spiel when she herself is less than perfect. When she met my bro, she had a BF of 3 years who was in the... (cont.)

... Philippine military, dropped him like a hot potato, and got with my brother. What the hell do you expect after meeting and getting to know someone for A WEEK? She's an idiot. My bro's an idiot. They're completely made for each other. What's sad also is that I'm not the only one who thinks that way in my family about the whole thing. From parents to youngest bro to uncles to aunts to cousins, the sentiment is about the same. None of us are capable of doing anything though because my brother is the epitome of stubborn.

    .

The other annoying part is how M these days struts around feeling a large sense of entitlement and superiority over our less-than-well-off cousins that are her age or younger. She bosses them around like they're the bloody househelp and she makes snide remarks about things they like because "they're for poor people" and she's not poor herself. My parents (as children) grew up poor and we weren't doing that great growing up but my parents did the best they... (cont.)

... could to give us things especially a college education. Now we have this pretty-faced girl who is about as smart as a box of hair acting like a princess. I've never in my life wanted to slap someone on the mouth so hard that I knock the brown out of her.

    .

Anyway, on the wedding side my brother has not saved ANY money at all for his wedding and in part he expect myself, the 'rents, and our youngest brother to pitch in lofty contributions. I've never wanted to tell someone (even my own brother) to f*ck off. He's received bonuses ranging from sign on, enlistment renewal to deployment probably totalling about $8k if I had to guess and not ONE PENNY has been set aside. What does he do with the money (along with his salary)? He went and bought a Digital SLR kit and 3 lenses (in Hong Kong), bought himself some personal firearms, buying a big flat screen TV, and getting a new car... (cont.)

...Mind you, while he's out getting these things (some on layaway/credit), he still has the nerve to call me and ask for money because he's "short on rent and his housing allowance didn't come through yet" or "he doesn't have enough to get buy himself food for the week". As the big sis, of course I'd throw a couple hundred here and there but it got old pretty quick. I started saying "No" so he stopped calling as much. Then he started calling the parental units.

    .

Of course, my mom would feel sorry for his ass and send him some money and all was well with him. Of course, when he doesn't need anything from anyone, no one hears from him!

    .

This month he's supposed to get another bonus and our mom asked that I get in touch with him to help him manage and collect his cash so there would be some money for the wedding. What was his response? You guessed it. There was none! Whatever, I tried. I'm not going to go chase him around for something he should take care of on his own... (cont.)

... His wedding is/was slated for this November! There's no postponing the wedding to next year because that's when myself and DH have our Church ceremony and in Filipino cultural superstition/belief, two siblings can not get married in the same calendar year because it's extremely bad luck. So that means him and M have to wait until 2012.

    .

*faceplam* In all seriousness, I so hope things work themselves out not only for my brother but also for my parents. I feel bad they're getting put through all this because of my bro's decision making. FML.

    Wow.

Why can't you slap M in the face with her past, though? She's a bioatch if she thinks that type of behavior is ok or cool. And WTF with FB already??!

I agree with MrsJoseph. It sounds to me like ole girl done forgot where she came from. I'd remind her that NONE of what she has would be possible without YOUR family.

What the hell? Someone does need to slap some sense into that girl, and your bro. Why isn't M taking care of all of his money and bills and such since they're engaged? And yeah I definitely wouldn't be handing him out any checks geez! Some people.

@MrsJ: Believe me, I've told her (M) that she's lucky I'm not in the Philippines at the moment because if I was, I would have literally slapped her. I also told her that her attitude/behavior is unacceptable.

    .

@Emily: She sort of is but at the same time she thinks she some sort of cunning genius. IDK if she'd have the nerves to leave my brother due to the fact that this is one big opportunity for her to make it to America.

    .

@Analy: You've met my bro. He's a good kid but holy Hell is he an epic douche. Smiley xd My mom has talked to her but I think my cousin in PI (Ate Marivic) has talked to her more about the situation.

    .

@Greyash: She can't take his money to manage because she lives in the Philippines and he lives in the US (in San Diego, CA). My bro has yet to fill out the proper paperwork to bring her over.

    .

@Ping: Salamat Ping! You're right though about the foundation (or lack thereof) of the wedding/marriage.

So, I don't really have any actual advice about this other than both of them need to have some sense slapped into them. But I do have to say that you chose some interesting initials for them S&M. Lol.

@Felisha: Well, it's the first letter of both their names. Smiley xd Oh, and I forgot to mention another interesting (funny?) bit - both his fiancée and exGF (from SF) have the same first name!
