WR: Upset

Faith, on August 1, 2011 at 11:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

My FH just decided that he no longer wants to have a white wedding says the money for the wedding isn't worth the show and just wants to get married in city hall and get it done.

i don't want this i want my day but how do i get him to be willing to spend the money for wedding. i offered to cut it down to small intimate and he still doesn't want to pay.

Maybe you could go on vacation and elope... that way it's the same price as going to city hall plus traveling expenses... but it's still special and exciting... I know want people to be there though... that's my problem... but it's an idea!

Well are his fears warranted? I think the FH's tend to be more practical (I know that's stereotypical of me to say tho)..but I certainly think he should be willing to compromise so you can meet somewhere in the middle..good luck! Did you already put deposits down?

You need to talk to him about your feelings. Is this both of your first weddings? You deserve a great day, but you can compromise with him. Start with talking about why it is important to you and what you would like to do.

Would you be willing to do a destination wedding. Then you can time your honeymoon and wedding together. Maybe he would be more willing to spend some money?

I think the two of you need to have a discussion about finances generally. Both of you need to have an equal say in decisions affecting your joint finances. The wedding will be only one of the many financial decisions you will need to make together. If he is taking the attitude that he has sole control over money, that's something you need to get resolved before you marry.

What is he afraid of? I think if you can find a happy medium. Maybe go to city hall and then have a reception afterwards? I had a friend got ot city hall in a retro looking dress, it was so cute, with her mom and another friend. They made a photo op out of it and it really was adorable.

Wow, I'm sorry that's happening to you. Have you guys put deposits down? Maybe explain is not worth to lose all the money you've already spent. I'm sorry I don't have much advice I know I would be crushed if my FH said that to me.
