who should be in my pictures !!

Harley Quinn, on June 30, 2011 at 11:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Ugh- so this was brought up tonight and I am at a total lost

My family situation is a little different

I was raised by my grandparents

My mom wasn't around much and my dad is totally out of the picture

Because my grandparents raised me, my uncle is more like my brother (he was living in their house until way after I turned 18 and moved out)

I'm also very close to my aunt

Although she now tries, I'm not that close to my mother, infact she continuously tries to "mother" me now, and its kind of annoying

It goes without saying, my grandpa, the man that raised me, will walk me down the aisle - my mom actually tried to argue against that

But who should be in my formal pictures - I really don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I don't want it to look weird either with a huge crowd

Oh another sensitive point- about a year before I was born, my grandfather had an affair and a child resulted from that- I found out about her when I was 16, **cont**

**cont** we met and because we are only a year a part in age bonded very quickly....most of my family doesn't accept her, I (and my grandmother feels the same) feel its not right to shunn her for what my grandfather and her mother did...do I invite her to the wedding and risk issues or do I not invite her and risk damaging our relationship..I mean, I was there when her oldest son was born.....and if I do invite her and she does come do I sit her with the family? ?

I'm not sure how formal you want to be with your wedding but why not skip the group photos and only have you two and the bridal party if you have one. Just ask the photographer if they can get family shots of tables. It might hurt you're grandmothers feeling if you do invite her, just being she raised you longer then you've know this girl. Just some suggestions hope it works out

My grandmother actually has no problem with me inviting her- she considers her part of the family...its actually my sister and my mother that treat her badly

I do like the idea of just him, me and the bridal party for the pictures...thanks!

I think you should ask your grandmother if shes ok with you inviting her, if shes ok then invite her , about the pictures maybe you can take them separate, your grandparent, then your parents and then your aunts and uncles that way you have pics with all of them

I think you should invite her.... If your mother wasn't in your life like that then her opinion shouldn't matter... (sorry if I am being 2 direct)! As far as pictures go, you're the bride; it is YOUR day... If you don't want deadbeats in your pictures tell them to go sit down... The people who showed you love when no one else could/wouldn't should be the ones in your pictures; not people that came when time was up and are trying to add themselves in the equation! I hope everything works out for you, but I think you should put your foot down & do what is best for you... Who cares about anyone else's feelings :/

@ Patrice B I completely agree...but I try to avoid drama, actually a lot of issues would disappear if my mom just didn't show up...and I know it sounds kinda mean...but I hope something comes up and she isn't able to attend. :/

Oh goodness, that is complicated. If you have time, have pictures with them all! I know that not really possible, but you can try. Even if they are just photos at the reception, I think you'll regret not having pictures with everyone. As far as if you should invite her, I think you should. Just keep try to keep them separate, you need as many people that love and support you as possible!

I think that you can do a variation of family photos. With today's evolving family designs, I think that this is actually an issue that photographers are now accustomed to dealing with.

If I were you, I would give the photographer a set of instuctions of who to have in both, the grandparent picks, and the parent picks. I would let him call on people to be included and to help take the frustration off of you and FH.

Also, invite whomever you believe will bring you happiness. Those who disagree will get over it.
