Unqiue and Fun Wedding Reception Ideas

Dorren, on November 4, 2011 at 1:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi All,

My fiance and I are getting married in my parents backyard in 5 months. I am looking for unique and fun ideas to make the reception different and exciting. We don't have much money and are looking to keep the budget around $3500 for everything.

My vision is all white. Long table with everyone sitting at it as we have a guest list of 60 and I want to keep things intimate and small and everyone feel included. I'm only adding a touch of color here and there on the table. White padded/resin folded chairs, white linen and my color centerpieces in a few spots along the table. Guests in all white. White tent and dance floor. To cut costs, I was thinking of just having chairs and no tables. We are doing a buffet style dinner that a friend's mom will cook. I thought maybe just a few tables if absolutely necessary. But I don't want to get into the expenses of tables and linens that won't really be used after people eat and we party all night. Suggestions? Ideas?

I think it would be weird to not have some tables to eat at, but aside from that, your vision sounds wonderful

I agree with Singing Diva. To be boringly practical, all white, plus eating on laps...a LOT of people are going to wind up with stains on their clothes!

Of course, I don't generally agree with mandated colors for guests, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

Everyone in white, and plates on their laps.... that sounds like a mess waiting to happen.

If you need to cut costs... get a smaller tent. Everyone will need a seat at a table to eat, but after the music starts, you can break down some tables to have a dance floor in the middle.

    Do less expensive table clothes.

Or if you Need linen, search bridal resale sites, craigslist, or ebay for some used ones.

Go to the dollar store or www.dollartree.com to get vases. Colored water looks really amazing.

Use the budget tool on here to help see how you can divide up your money. You can move money from categories you don't need into other spots.

    good luck ~ congrats

A white wedding can be so beautiful and romantic...Smiley smile

I think you might want to do tables more than chairs because if you are serving food, people are going to need somewhere to put the plate and the drink.

It could be more like a cocktail party with those high tables and maybe some benches around...

I just asked if asking your guests to come in a specific color was a good idea and got e-beaten down with comments and name calling...

It sounds like you are brewing with ideas for your day...I hope it all works out beautifully Smiley smile

    It's victim time, yippee....

I like Hayley's idea of breaking down tables after dinner.

Definitley get the tables. Look for other ways to cut corners, like a less expensive dress, disposable linens, DIY all your centerpieces and decor, etc. Good luck, I love backyard weddings!

I definitely agree about the tables. Guests will want to enjoy themselves when they eat, not juggle plate, utensils, drink, and all the while wearing white. Let them be comfortable.

I agree with Clare...there could be more ways to cut costs other than the tables...

Hey SpamShannon S., if you have something else to say to me...send me a private message and I'll give you my phone number and address so you can stop bullying people online in wedding forums and talk like a real person in front of my face...

Why are you so negative to everyone? Didn't you get married this year...you should still be in the honeymoon phase...so go get some and give us all a break from your negativity...

The things i hear: no tables = on laps, and like hayley said. people will spill. also with everyone wearing white are you going to feel special still?

I love all white for the decor though!
