Picked and paid for a dress, but I don't like it? (w/ pictures)

Amanda, on December 5, 2011 at 8:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

It's not that I don't like the dress but i had THE WORST experience at DB EVER!

After having a ball on Saturday with one of my bridesmaids, I had picked a GORGEOUS Vera Wang dress and put it on layaway and was giddy that I found MY DRESS.

Moments later I receive a phone call from DB saying that they are " SO SORRY" and they forgot to mention that Vera Wang cannot be put on layaway. I did not have $1200 to put upfront. Especially over Christmas.

So me and my bridesmaid went back and I continued to try on dresses. I decided on a dress that I had tried on earlier and loved but after leaving the store I still didn't feel like I got MY dress.

I REALLY don't know what to do.

That dress is beautiful but is it mine?

These pictures are from the second time back so i don't like SO thrilled and my makeup is all over the place because it was 100 degrees in that store! LOL

Thoughts?

Tour wedding isn't until 8/12. You still have time to save your money so that you can buy the dress of your dreams. I tried on several dresses and thought they were my dream dress. I took a break regrouped and found the dress of my dreams. Relax. Enjoy the trill of dress shopping. If the dress is meant for you, you will have it. By the way, i really like the dress in the picture

Aw! Thank you Lonyah! I think I REALLY do LOVE the dress a lot! I know I am the type of person that forever will be second guessing my decision. I need to stop doing that and like you said just enjoy it!

Hi Amanda, I think the one you picked looks great on you. But if you have your heart set on the Vera Wang, can you maybe ask for gift cards for christmas, I don't know if DB carries gift cards but if not maybe just as for the visa ones. Or cash for the dress. Maybe that will help you get enough money to pay for the vera. I also think it is very normal for brides to second guess their dress purchase.... I know I have.

@Tina Thank you for letting me know that I am not a bridezilla! LOL I am starting to worry that I will never be happy with a dress! I think that this dress is GORGEOUS! I think that only this it is missing is some pazzaz! The Vera dress was loud and very ' Look at me " and this is just simple elegance. I think if the seamstress can add a little something to it like a different color bet or something then I will be thrilled.

That dress is gorgeous, but the girls are right... You've got time if you want the other dress. And I totally understand about second guessing, I've been second guessing my choice like crazy!

That dress is stunning, however, I agree with the others. You have time to save for the dress you really want. If you "settle" you will always compare and never be truly "happy".

    Good luck!

@ Amanda, that's what I do when I start to second guess my pick. I think about how my hair will look, and my shoes, and the bouquet on the "big" day and makes me happier about the dress. I think once you get everything together it will be perfect!!! and definetly have fun with it... add some of your personality to it, whether it's a color sash or some bling!! Make it yours! You will be beautiful... as all brides are!!

I absolutely realize that i still have time. Being a bride that is in the process of losing weight even before I got engaged 9 i am already down 40lbs ) I want to have the dresses chosen that way it is not a last minute decision and I do not have enough time for alterations.

Thank you so much for all of your helpful words!

If you don't absolutely love it don't get it. I think most of us second guess ourselves. My gown hasn't come in yet and I haven't seen the sample since August I've been completely second guessing myself recently. I can't wait to see my dress done in my colors Smiley smile The dress I tried on was in red and I'm doing blue so I'm worried about how it will look in my color...

Oh my goodness. I'm going through almost the same thing, except for I thought I loved my dress. However, when I showed the picture to my best friend and my sister, they didn't like it. As a result I am thinking of changing it and maybe losing my deposit.

That is a hard thing to go through! My FMIL didn't give me the reaction I wanted when she saw my future wedding dress. I think that as well has some effect on how I feel about it.

"mothers" have an idea in their head what a wedding dress "should" look like. When the dress you pick out is more of a modern design and not traditional looking, they don't always love it right away. I wouldn't worry about her response.

If you LOVE it and feel Beautiful in it, and know it is The One, then go for it. As the ladies said, hopefully you can get some $ for the holidays to put towards the dress.

Or just cut some things out of your every day life to save up the money. No more Starbucks, bring a lunch to work. No more movie theatre tickets. No more drinking - going to the bars. Cutting some unnecessary expenses out of your daily life will save you the money in no time.

    Beautiful Dress ~ congrats

The other ladies are right, you have plenty of time to save! Plus, it will probably go on sale later! You might even check recycledbride.com or some consignment shops to see if you can't find it lightly used. The price will go waaaay down if it's only been worn (or even purchased and never worn) once!

It looks great on you! Super pretty!

The dress looks great on you, but if you are in love with the Vera, save up and order that dress instead. You have plenty of time! =]

I tried on that dress in the picture as well, but didn't look nearly as lovely as you do. Follow your heart, but for what it's worth, the dress looks gorgeous on you.

Ask about their credit option. I am not sure if run along side the lay away thing. But i was unable to put up all the money right away for my dress so David's Bridal let me start a credit card with them that has the balance on it, and it gives you 6 months to pay it all back. You can even add things like shoes and jewelry and veil to the same account. Makes Paying for it a lot easier knowing i can just make a monthly payment rather than a lump sum.
