Ok I have to ask and I feel a little dumb...what is trashing the dress about?

C.T.&J.J1014, on August 6, 2012 at 10:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I saw a post about trashing of the wedding dress and I posted. But I guess I don't know of this tradition I have never heard on it before yesterday. So can someone explain to this girl what that means lol. I feel like I am the only one right now who hasn't heard of this. Thanks ladies!!

The Wiki definition: Trash the dress, also known as fearless bridal or rock the frock, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamour photography.

It can range anywhere from jumping into a pool or fountain (which would ruin most bridal fabrics) to rolling in the grass, to throwing paint on it (like the OP) or ripping and tearing (like the fake dress worn in one photo shoot where they simulated a zombie attack)

I plan to go in my dress on a railroad track, a fence in the farm, a muddy farm with cows and horses wearing my cow girl boots and hat and getting all up in there.

The pics above describe it so well!

The most popular way to do it right now is in some kind of water. I think it's meant to look sexy, in that soaking wet model kinda of way.

I am thinking about doing this is a creek or river.....but I am only going to do shots that don't really ruin the dress

I am not going to get muddy because I just dont like being all dirty and gross... I MIGHT go in the water, but I am thinking more along the lines of something like these... I would never do these before the wedding for fear or getting my dress dirty, but afterwards, anything goes!

Thank you ladies for clearing that up for me... they should really change the name... some of these pictures you have posted isn't really `trashing` your dress... I really like the ones EdieKristen posted amazing shots.

Maybe I could see myself doing something classy like that on an anniversary so I can have the chance to dress up again but I'm not sure. Again thank you for letting me in the know of this `tradition` Smiley smile

We did ours using a Chinese Knockoff cheap replica of my real dress. Ours was a zombie apocalypse theme and our friends dressed up like zombies. they tried to "Kill" DH and I and in the process got fake blood on the dress and ripped it up.

    Jennifer those are really fun!

I love the idea of doing these when we get back home to CO. But I think my dress would be a safety hazard on the chairlift b/c the train is too long. Smiley smile Also H does not see the point of doing a photo shoot and it's not quite important enough to me to convince him. So we'll see. Smiley smile
