At work, we are encouraged heavily to get involved in our communities and volunteer. This is One Week and as a corporation, we go out in teams and volunteer with places like Habitat, schools for under privileged kids, restoring parks, etc. My team did Junior Achievement Financial Park, which helps 8th graders learn about budgets and real life. Basically, they are given an identity and get to be an adult for the day, and we as the volunteers, get to help them make real world decisions, like: "should I buy that sweet Audi, or get a more reasonable Jetta? I would love to get clothes from this high end boutique, but my budget only allows for Goodwill."
And at the end of the day, they have to meet a dollar goal with their budgets, so we know if they worked their math right. It was a lot of fun for us and the kids, surprisingly.
They thought I was in HS. I'm 33. WIN!
Also, hey look, five stars!
