NWR: Shedding for the Wedding!

Courtney, on January 26, 2013 at 5:24 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 29

And just life in general!

I would love to lose 15lbs, but I can't seem to kick start the weight loss. Anyone have suggestions, I'm considering a juice fast, but wanted to hear some other ideas that people had as well.

TIA

Well, I was doing Insanity and had to stop because of this weird bubble in my wrist. Can't extend my right wrist beyond a 45 degree angle. Bracing at night and icing for now, will need to get a consultation from a hand/wrist surgeon if this doesn't work. Anyway, I stopped insanity because I couldn't do any of the floor work...

Ugh, that's awful, I forgot :-( I really hope it just goes away. The good news is that you've got time and 15 lbs is not that much. Can you still run or something?

Thanks Mrs S, me too! Positive vibes!!

I was thinking about doing insanity and just skipping the floor work that involves putting pressure on the wrist. It's still a good work out, I just feel like I'm cheating!

I know many of us are using http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

to track calories. Make sure you measure what you eat. Although I would probably use another website to calculate how much to eat since MFP usually aims too low.

Blogilates also has meal plan ideas plus work outs. You can probably find some videos that don't require pressure to be put on your wrists.

I've never done insanity, but what about doing something else during the floor work time? Ex. for plank holds, sit ups or for push ups you could do arm exercises maybe with light weights?

Idk if you eat sweets, caffeine, etc. If you ONLY drink water (TONS) no sugary treats and sweets or coffee , no soda all the good stuff. That helps a lot. just doing that alone i lost 5 lbs plus an extra 15 with exercising.

    good luck! stay strong

Good idea Tatiana! That way I'm not just standing there and feeling guilty for not working out!

Carrie thanks for the recommendation, I'm definitely going to check out the blog!

I've already given up soda and I don't eat a lot of sweets as it is. My weakness is anything salty! And I usually only have one cup of coffee per day, and I don't think I could give that up!

How about switching to zumba until you figure out what's going on with your wrist? It gives you an awesome workout, it's fun, and it doesn't put pressure on your wrists.

I am down 30 lbs and counting. What worked for me is Zumba 3 to 5 times a week and changing my diet. I drastically reduced my intake of fried foods, white anything (rice, bread), red meats, and sweets. I increased my intake of water, fruits, and protein (fish and chicken). Basically I don't deny myself of my favorite foods I just make sure that I don't over indulge. Oh and also, I started eating breakfast and try no to eat any big meal after 7pm.

The only effective workout for me was and will always will be a variety of cardio and strength training

My main form of cardio is an hour long class of cardio kickboxing.

Sprints on a treadmill are also effective! (Run as fast as you can for 1 minute, rest 1 minute, repeat until exhausted) Cardio in the morning is extremely effective so it jump starts your metabolism all day!

Strength training is important to get toned for that wedding dress!

Kettle bells, free weights, weighted machines, TRX bands.

Maybe a personal trainer would be a good investment to ensure your time at the gym is effective toward your goals

Below is an explanatory video of some of the upper body exercises i do

(My dress is strapless so a lean, defined upper body is important to me!)

The other key to success for weight loss is to eat clean!!!

Below are some easy tips that have worked for me:

    Eat protein with every meal

Drink lots of water throughout the day

Never skip meals to try to lose weight - that will just slow down your metabolism

    Minimize alcohol and sugar intake!

Carbs (choose whole grains) should ONLY be eaten within 1-2 hours post workout

Remember eating junk will just negate any hard work you just put in at the gym!!!

    Good luck!!!!

I'd like to lose 15-20. I just joined WW on which I've been really successful in the past. I just wish I was more motivated :-(

    Leanna -

Try low/no carb. When I started that diet I lost about 1.5 lbs a day and inches (mostly from around the belly). I recommend it to everyone. It's the only diet that I've found easy to stick to with ridiculously obvious results right off the bat.
