NOT A POLITICAL DISCUSSION but am i wrong to drop a vendor because of their strong political views?

Judi, on November 16, 2016 at 6:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 117

DISCLAIMER - i'm not looking for for political discussion. I am not asking what your views are. i'm asking how much can you ignore a vendor's whose views are SO DIRECTLY against your own??

Obviously this political season has tainted our interactions with one another and has called into question how we perceive the people that you come into contact with.

I come from a blue state. I want to get married in a red state.. I'm trying to stay out of people's politics and assume that for the most part, everyone is on the same page and everyone has their reasons for voting as they did but I just saw some of the stuff that one of my potential vendors is posting on his FB page and i am disturbed..

I really wanted to work with them because they came so highly recommended but WOW i cannot endorse and pay money to someone who hates as much as this guy does. now i have to break the appointment.

Am i making too big a deal of this?

Nope! I would not be able to work with someone like that. I won't even go to Chick-Fil-A after what they did. In the end it's up to you but I would cancel and find someone else.

I want to clarify that Its not because of who he voted for but because of his own personal politics that calls into question why I cannot hire him.

Do what you have to do. If you don't want to pay for their thoughts don't work with them there are more options out there. Things like this are why businesses need to stay out of politics it can cost them money. They should know better.

If you feel so strongly, I'd use someone else. I personally don't want to give my money to people that are OK with hate messages.

I think political views do not dampen a person's ability to perform exceptionally. Unless that vendor is refusing service to certain people based on their views, it shouldn't reflect on them as professionals at all.

That being said, are the FB posts are on their official business page? If not, those are his/her personal views and should be disregarded. If so, and if they are targeting/offensive in any way, I would say that's really unprofessional.

I'd drop them and let them know exactly why, honestly. Those posts are disgusting, morally and professionally. All around awful.

You're better off than giving money to that brand of ignorance and hatred.

My first thought to your question was that if he was great at his job I would be able to overlook it.

But after reading what he wrote, helllll no I wouldn't wanna work with him either.

I don't think business owners should be mixing their business and their personal beliefs to begin with, whether they are political, religious, or whatever.

I don't think any professional should use social media as a platform to discuss their personal views.

If you feel this strongly, I'd pass and find someone else.

I personally wouldn't, but I am the type of person who can separate these things (not saying you aren't able to).

If you two are on the same page and you really want to go with them, will you be able to set this aside?

That would be an ABSOLUTE NO FOR ME! I don't shop or eat at several establishments because of who they donate to and what they support. This is no exception

@Nikol, i have several close family members and coworkers who voted differently and feel quite differently than I do. i am paying thier plate to join my wedding just the same because politics aside, we are all respectful and open in our discussions and everyone just wants a better life. I am usually quite good at accepting that not everyone will think as I do.

    But this i cannot ignore..

i just selected a few choice ones - it goes on and on but I dont want to risk libel (though if its on FB its public property isn't it?)
