Just out of curiosity....completely covered bridesmaid dress?

Lacy, on February 26, 2010 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 32

If you read my post yesterday, you know I'm not short a friend and a bridesmaid. Well my FH and I have become good friends with one of his classmates and his wife. In a few weeks once I've really thought it over, I might ask his wife to be my bridesmaid. This is the same couple who helped my FH orchestrate his proposal. They are Turkish and Muslim. Gonca, the wife, wears a headscarf. So in the meantime before I make a decision, I was curious about finding a bridesmaid dress that covered more skin than the usual ones. I found one on DB that I think would be easy for her to cover up. http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998974¤tIdx=20&subCategory=-49998976|-49998975|-49998974&catentryId=6144359&sort=

What do you think? I also know her dress wouldn't need to be form-fitting. I'm just trying to find some options for her in case she says yes.

Pretty! Do her arms and shoulders need to be covered, too?

On an even more exciting note, I'm really happy that there is another woman you're considering asking...and to boot, she's a woman that has already proven that she cares about you and your FH and is supportive of you getting married!

Yes her arms and shoulders need to be covered. I figure she would have an easy task of wearing something underneath this dress to cover her shoulders and arms plus her headscarf. I'm going to keep looking around though to try to find more options.

But if you of you find something, please post it! Smiley smile

And yes, if I do decide to ask her and if she does say yes, I will be very happy with her being in my wedding party. She and her husband are two of the nicest people I've ever met and they have been completely supportive.

Ha I just searched and someone put an answer on a yahoo question about getting a balero to match. Hadn't thought of that. So if we can get a balero, it wouldn't be difficult at all for her and it would be easier for her headscarf as well. Smiley smile

Try looking for Modest Bridesmaids Dresses - there are lots of religions that require modest dress, and lots of women who just prefer to dress that way. A quick google search came up with lots of items.

Does anyone know if the boleros at DB can be dyed? Also, the dress is chiffon, so wouldn't the normal DB bolero be too heavy for it? IDK I'm all confused.

I think if you ask her you should give her guidelines and let her pick out her own dress.. with help.. she is more likely going to know where to look or know someone to ask and that way she will be 100% comfortable in what she is wearing

Ha. Had an idea in my head of a "little jacket thingy with long sleeves" that I had seen and was searching for to try to help...yeah, that's what a bolero is, isn't it? But I like all of the suggestions above. Another thing to consider is that once you ask her she can probably help. If she dresses this way every day she has lots of practice making her beliefs work with current styles. If you show her your ideas she will probably be touched by your thoughtfulness and then be able to help choose something that works for both of you. Good luck!

Jlacy I love that first dress! I would so have loved to have found something like that for my two girls, and not because I am modest, just cause the style is so nice!

How traditional is she? Like does she wear clothing in the western style? I ask because I know some girls who are muslim, wear the headscarf, but still wear tight jeans and western-type shirts and whatnot. If she is more traditional maybe something like this (obviously I can see that the girl in the pic is supposed to be the bride but maybe something like that in your colors?) You should ask her too - she may have a better sense of where to get appropriate clothing.

Thanks everyone! I will find out if she knows of a place to get a dress. I don't think she will since she has been in the US less than a year. Which is the main reason why I'm looking for different selections.

@yada, she is more traditional. She does wear blue jeans and t-shirts, but if the t-shirt is short sleeved, she wears a long-sleeved shirt under it.

I think you will be able to work with that dress. she could wear a long sleeve under it or a matching jacket over.
