How to make good tissue poms?

Jen P., on July 6, 2011 at 4:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I get the idea of how to make tissue poms, but mine always look lop sided and , well, not so round and pretty.. Is 10 sheets too many sheets? is there a special trick to the way you cut the ends? Do you secure the sheets together flat or are you supposed to bunch it up? Anyone who is a pro or at least can make these and have them look decent, your help is appreciated!

How big are you making them. I noticed something weird with me. When I use actual tissues, not tissue paper but soft tissues, they look beautiful, lol. but when I use tissue paper it looks like a crinkly disaster! If you're making small ones try tissues. lol

You have to put the wire DIRECTLY in the middle before "fluffing" them out. Pull the wire super tight and then secure it. Make sure the ends are cut proportionately. But normally if its uneven the wire isn't directly in the middle.

That's so funny Gina! I was in the dollar store and saw napkins and though "I wonder if those would work.."

@Amy- you have brought wire to my attention.. I used string lol... maybe wire would work better because I was getting fustrated with the paper slipping when trying to tie it around!

That reminds me! I used little rubber bands for holding them together, ah braces. lol! But that is right, centering them is important

Question- Should I be cutting long along the folded edges to make deeper ripples or are they supposed to be shallow?

    (sure hope that made sense)

I used wire, since it's more sturdy it worked better plus I used the styrafoam balls so I had to stick the ends of the flowers into the balls with the wire. I only used four sheets. I used this tutorial http://thediybride2010.blogspot.com/2009/12/how-to-make-tissue-paper-pomanders.html

    They came out pretty good.

That looks really good Greyash!! Only thing is I'm planning to make a string garland of them so I need them to be small and lightweight so I'm not sure the styrofoam would work.. but maybe.. guess I've got a lot of messing around to do ;P pain.
