How much did you pay for your photographer??

Jess, on December 9, 2012 at 1:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 42

I just signed up on wedding wire a couple of weeks ago and everyone seems so nice!

I'm looking for some help...we just booked a sort of "all inclusive venue" and the husband of the officiant is a photographer. He said that he will charge us $1000 for over 300 shots, before, during ceremony & reception, photos of also family and guest attending and we can go home with the CD. Do you think that is a good price or are we paying too much??? Please help!

If he's traveling from the ceremony in Connecticut to the reception in Texas, I think $1,000 is a steal.

No...we are going out there to make it legal and then we are having the ceremony and reception in TX.

Guess I should update that lol

    Hi Jade, welcome!

If I understand it correctly, he's just going to download the pics on a CD in the end of the reception. Is that right?

    Thank you Nancy!

Yes Mrs. S....He will be taking pictures of everything, even while we are getting our makeup/hair...after we will get a CD of all pics to take home.

Ha! I'm paying $4500 for an engagement shoot and the wedding photography. I'd say that's a damn good deal.

That's not a very good deal then. Part of the reason professional photographers charge the $ they do, is the work that goes into pictures afterwards. Editing, deleting those that didn't turn out well (light, closed eyes, etc.).

If he just downloads the pics without any work on them, I doubt he is a pro photographer. Out of 300 pics, you'll be lucky to have 100 good ones. That's not a whole lot for a wedding.

I honestly didn't think about the editing after etc...I need to confirm if he will be doing that before he downloads to the CD. Thanks Mrs. S

I paid 800.00 for my photos and we received over 400 edited photos and 8 hours of photographing on our wedding day.

I agree with Mrs. S, that does NOT sound like a good deal without the editing.

Editing is key. Don't buy a photography package without it.

That's pretty good! Make sure to ask for pics he's taken at other weddings too if you're not familiar with his photography. Professional doesn't always mean good- not saying he's bad but me personally, I like to know what I'm getting. Smiley smile and congrats btw Smiley smile

If they're edited images then I think $1,000 is a steal (at least in Maryland), but also make sure you like his work! You don't want to regret the "steal" later.

I'm paying $950 for mine. That included engagement photos, 2 photographers the day of, unlimited shots, and staying until all events are done. I'll just be getting a CD w/prints for that price but i'm okay with printing/making all my own stuff =)

3700 for engagement shoot with photos made into a guest book, 7 hours of coverage, 40 edited pictures in an album, and a CD of our day Smiley smile But I would pay anything for my photographer she's amazing!

We just did our engagement photos and she charged us $100. I gave her $120. She’s charging us $650 for the wedding from beginning to end. We get a CD with about 400 prints. She’s also going to print about 10 photos for us and put together a photo book.

I think 1000 is a good deal. Before we found our photographer we were having trouble finding anyone under $2500.

    Good luck!

I paid $850 for two hours of photos. It think we got around 270 or a little more. If he's going to be with you for a long time, I think it's a good deal, especially with the editing. Photos are so expensive! But it helps to remember that we are paying people for their art, the rights to their art, and the time they spend creating it (which is often many more hours than they are with us).

We paid $1,750 for four hours, one photographer, edits, a CD and an 8 x 8 album. I got over 300 edited pictures in just 4 hours... you may want to re-think the image count if it's going to be an all day event. I hate when photographers say they'll give you "x amount of images".

We had our wedding in McKinney. Not too far from you Smiley smile

When we were planning, I was very wary of any photographer who had a set number we would receive. We ended up getting both photo and video from our team, which included an engagement session (got 150 shots from a 45 minute shoot, short because of time constraints on our part), and day of. They were with us from breakfast at 8am (earlier than we expected, a nice surprise) until after midnight as we cleaned up at the venue, took over 5,000 photos and in the end we got just over 1,500 photos. The main part of the video will be near 2 hours and the after party and special performances will be separate. For all this, we paid $3,900 and between the quality and quantity of photos and videos, and how wonderful the team was, and the fact that we own everything outright, it was worth every penny and then some!
