How involved is your FS in the wedding planning?

Teapot Bride, on September 24, 2010 at 7:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 29

My FH is starting to cheese me off. I'm not expecting him to be enthralled by a discussion about table linens. But I feel FH is totally uninterested in everything. It was a struggle to get him to tour the venue with me, then I gave him a copy of the sample menu from the catering company and he barely glanced at it, among other things.

I am totally okay with handling all of the details, but I at least thought that he'd be interested in looking at the venue, if nothing more than for the fact that he'll know where he's supposed to turn up on our wedding day. And also, food! He loves food, I thought he'd like looking over the sample menus and helping me pick out what stations we want.

I am expecting too much or should he be a little more involved?

I think he'll start getting more interested the closer youare to the wedding. you have 2 years and guys don't have a very long attention span when it comes to weddings.

I wouldn't expect anyone to be as excited and into as you are, including FH. Although if this was a couple of months before the wedding you would be allowed to slap him around Smiley winking

FH essentially gives yes or no answers. "do you like this for the venue?" yes. "which color, coral or blue?" blue. "what do you want to wear?" you tell me. So essentially, he's in the same place your fh is.

But he explained that he knows girls dream of their wedding day from age 2, and he could honestly care less what we do as long as I'm happy, we're in budget, and we're married at the end of the day. So maybe your fh just wants to let you have everything you were hoping for and is just trying not to step on your toes. Keep including him in big choices, but don't expect him to be ecstatic that this photographer has a great album design (unless it's a boudoir of course Smiley winking

    But, he exained

Great advice, guys. I think I was just a little hurt that he was more interested in his iPad than the wedding planning. But he did agree to meet with the photographer and a potential wedding planner next week. I'll take what I can get. :p

Yeah, I got upset about it from time to time too. He had time to go on craigslist and look for used jeep parts, but not to look up something for the wedding, or email his groomsmen. It is frustrating but when he does give an opinion it's wacky and then I have to make it work and fit in. So maybe you are better off! haha. Good luck!

My FH is a lot like Danielle's. He told me in the very beginning that he was okay with anything that I wanted. He wanted me to have my dream wedding. He only cared that at the end of the day we were married. Sometimes I try to talk to him about it, but if he seems uninterested, I move on. I just remind him now that he cannot complain about anything later when he chose not to have a say in it. The only thing that he has been really vocal on is that he doesn't want hearts everywhere. He thinks it is too cheesy. But for me, I knew he would be like this so I didn't expect too much out of him. Then when he gets involved, it is a pleasent surprise.

My FH also said the same thing that LYNSIE'S did (he wanted me to have my dream wedding. He only cared that at the end of the day we were married.) But, now that we are getting closer to the wedding, he is starting to put some input into the planning and its a great surprise. He has went for the cake tasting and helped me decide the cake, also went to the florist with me and helped decide the decor, And also is helping me with the invitations.. Best thing to do is not to expect much help and you will be surprised how much he will wind up helping you the closer you get to the wedding, (he didnt start helping me until 6 months before the wedding, besides the appointments..)

Mine is everywhere and involved in EVERYTHING. And, like Cindy, anytime I ask his opinion I get a wacky answer. Anytime I ask about decorations, he says, "Orange. And something cartoony." So I guess we're having a Garfield theme wedding? Aaaaaaaagggghh. On the plus side, he's self-aware enough to refer to himself as, "The Groomzilla."

I think a lot of guys just aren't big on abstract thought. The wedding is too far away right now. It's the same with my friends who have kids...their husbands didn't make a big deal out of the pregnancy until the baby was actually there and no longer an abstract concept - then they were smitten!

My fh didn't want ANYTHING to do with planning the wedding..anytime i would ask for his opion he would just give me the deer in the headlight look..the only thing he did take an interest in was the cake..my mom is a cake decorator so i stole all her books and told him to pick one..and he actually did a vary nice job..it all just depends on his mood if he wants to help or not.

I would definately give your FS some time to let this all absorb. You guys have 2 YEARS! I have a feeling that if you sit him down and tell him you need his help he will come around....but def not until like a year away.

    COMMUNICATION! :-)

On a scale from 1-10 my fiance is a -45. I'm really hoping he'll get into it later. Unfortunately, thats also after most of the work is done. I've asked him to be more involved and with a loooooot of pushing he picked out the DJ and officiant, but never went as far as to get things signed. haha =)

I agree with Sharon- My husband was the 'exception' Brian mentioned. My husband was involved as much as I was, with me every step of the way, I couldn't have done it without him!

My FH actually likes it. But, then his crazy ex ran an event planning biz. She ran it into the ground as she does with all things. But, he spent a lot of time helping her, so he's familiar with the wedding industry & actually has opinions on things.

Just because he isn't involved doesn't mean he isn't excited. I think the same goes with pregnancies, books I've read said don't freak out if you husband isnt't dying to touch your belly and take off of work to go to every single appointment with you, etc, etc. Once the baby is born he will be crying and be a wonderful father.

A lot of guys just don't like to plan and shop for "women" stuff. But when the day comes he'll be happy and excited to be marrying you.

My husband enjoyed it, he didn't give too many opinions but he wanted to be at every meeting with our planner and at every appointment.

Oh thank god i'm not the only one with a disinterested fh! i actually don't mind at all that he doesn't care about the details...i like planning all this stuff and this way i get to pick out what I want - hahahah! i do still ask him to make sure he likes what i'm getting before i get it and usually it's "do you like this" and he'll say "it's fine" - and that's it! and the first couple times he did that it freaked me out...but i have learned that if he doesn't like it he'll tell me he doesn't like it...i know he doesn't like polka dots and he doesn't want the invitations to have flowers on them! hahahaha! but every once in a while i'll hear him on the phone with someone talking about the paper flower centerpieces i'm making and how awesome they are...so he is excited about it and that makes me happy! so don't take it personal..he's just a guy and party planning is not their thing! Smiley smile

My FH isn't involved AT ALL!!!! His only assignment (he requested) was to choose the date and that was 2months ago!!! He won't even give me a year or season...smh After so many poking (and after sex confession) he admitted that he gets overwhelmed by all the small stuff and that I am taking on too many things at once he suggested I ask him about invitations first and take a while with that and then continue with the "other stuff"...But whenever I mentioned any ideas he would change the subject. When I confronted him he had the nerve of saying that I never showed him any examples!!! Well I finally MAILED him some ideas and he ACTUALLY CALLED BACK!!! So I suggest getting creative, lol!

My FH is involved with everything. I bought something when he wasnt there and he was so hurt. He loved it but wants to be in every detail and felt like I left him out. I thought I was the only one with a groomzilla Shannon! lol I agree with all the ladies.... the closer it gets he should enjoy it more. Good Luck

My FH has an interest in the food, the cake flavor, the booze and the music list. However, he's planning the honeymoon and he's pretty excited about that. He loves to travel so he's enjoying researching the different places we can do and what we can do.

My FH has been very actively involved in all of the planning. When we first got engaged he didn't want to talk about it much, but after we set a date and I started doing research and things, he would sit next to me at my laptop and look and stuff. Sometimes I wouldn't even notice until he'd comment on something he liked or didn't like...

He goes with me on any and every appointment/meeting (Except for 1 time, when I got my dress obviously!) But he went with to pick out all the bridesmaids dresses, he helped with the colors, flowers, food, venue, guest list, everything! He even helped me design our STD's and pick out our invitations and all that.

Most of my friends have less than thrilled fiances, who just want the wedding to be over with so they don't have to hear about it again... So I guess I'm really luck! Definitely happy to have his help! =0)

So far in the wedding planning, I have done pretty much everything, actually, yes, everything. FH thinks all he has to do is show up the day of. What he doesn't know, is he has to pick out his tux, pick out my ring, which actually, I picked it out and showed it to him, so he has to go to the store and get it. But, he isn't much of a planner, and it doesn't really bother me to plan everything. lol. I picked our first dance song, had him listen to two i was torn between, and he picked the one i liked best, and thats about as involved as he gets. =] lol. Your not the only one honey!
