Honeymoon help! Trying to choose the best island.

J+J 2018, on November 29, 2017 at 5:32 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

FH and have both been to Oahu and we loved it! We have decided we want to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon but want to visit a different island. We are trying to decide between Maui or the Big Island. We are looking for a romantic hotel and we want to go the island that will have more going on but still have the beautiful beaches! Have any of you been to honeymoon in Hawaii? Which island did you go to and how did you like it? As far as activities we would like to do a mix of everything.. from relaxing to the beach to going out into nature.. thank you for your answers in advance Smiley smile

Maui has much more in the way of activities, great bars and restaurants and still has great beaches.

Maui!!!!! The Big Island is not all that romantic. It isn't lush and luxurious it's mostly lava fields

@JustKidding that looks so beautiful and relaxing! Did you have access to the beach directly from the hotel grounds?

We stayed partially at the Sheraton in west Maui (which was closer to Lahaina and many of the luaus) and the second half of the trip we stayed at the Fairmont in Wailea. It was fucking incredible. Totally worth the expense to us!

We never had a bad meal at either of the resorts/restaurants we went to. Our favorite by far was the Monkeypod-it's a great local place and is amazing.

We didn't do the road to Hana (we didn't want to be in the car 6 plus hours), but we did do blue Hawaiian helicopter tour which was great and I forget which company, but the sunrise and bike ride down Mount Haleakala. The colors we saw that morning was just unreal.

That was our nightly view from the fairmont (had like a 200 square foot lanai)

I kept trying to respond but it looks like I am having issues on mobile. Now I am on a desktop at work Smiley winking.

@Kristin- Kauai does look so beautiful, do you know if there is nightlife on that island? I have heard that it is mostly about the beauty of the nature?

@JustKidding- Don't worry about it! I will check out that hotel on TripAdvisor Smiley laugh I am very excited now!

MAUI MAUI MAUI no debate!!! It's amazing and you won't want to leave. If you can afford it... the fairmount hotel on Maui is AMAZING

ETA monkey pod is so good especially desert. Kaui is more tranquil. Less to do other than nature or beach! But amazing if you want to chill Smiley smile

I still say MAUI MAUI MAUI

Choose Maui! We stayed at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort and loved it.

I went to Hawaii for my first honeymoon 20 years ago. We stayed at the Hilton Waikaloa village because I wanted to swim with the dolphins. We also had snorkeling and beach right on the property and it was really romantic and nice (too bad the rest of the marriage wasn't! Lol)

I went to Kauai as a teenager and it is absolutely beautiful, lush and green and gorgeous but much less "to do" in terms of city type stuff.

Thank you all so much!!! These hotels all look heavenly!!! I will need to talk to FH about our honeymoon budget. I know if I want to stay at these nicer hotels I am going to have to cough up the extra money.. I want to have a very relaxing and romantic honeymoon!

How many days did you stay in Maui? We are thinking of doing 6 nights..
