Just Said Yes February 2016

Hello there!

Kayla, on September 24, 2013 at 10:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hi! My name is Kayla Gilleland. I have been married for 2.5 years. We got married at the courthouse because my DH's brother is in the military and it was very important to my DH for his brother to be there. We had planned on renewing our vows so i could get my "real wedding" and celebrate with family but that did not happen. Now we are settled alittle more and are planning a 5 year vow renewal in 2016. I want it to be a nice elegant wedding on a budget so we will be DIY ing alot.

Anyways HI!

So question... we never had a wedding celebration at all so is it ok and in proper etiquette to treat this as more of a wedding then just a vow renewal?

A lot of people will have opinions on whether you can treat it as a wedding or not, but it's your vow renewal you can treat it as a wedding if you want to. The only thing I would expect less of from attendants at a vow renewal is things like showers and gifts that typically come from a "normal" wedding.

Welcome to WW! I love DYI weddings. My best advice since you have some time is start some projects early so you're not doing things last minute.

Welcome to WW. And congrats on renewing your vows for your 5th anniversary. I love vow renewals. Hubby and I are renewing our vows next year to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We had a small wedding in 2004 and when we first start planning our renewal it was laid back ceremony and party, but it has now taken on a life of its own. We're having our original MOH and BM from our wedding and we're not doing any type of bachelorette party or bridal shower. Instead we're doing a couples overnight getaway.

Bottom line is that you plan it the way you want to. Our vow renewal has turned into somewhat of a "weddingy (if that's a word)" type of event, but we're having fun in the planning process and our friends and family are excited for us.

Happy planning and can't wait to read all your planning posts and see your DIY ideas Smiley smile
