Had my first real break down cry...Davids bridal related, please help me decide!

Lucky me, on November 5, 2012 at 9:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I went to DB this weekend with 2 of my BM. Next week I am having the bigger part of the BM party go for their dresses. I am having 12 BM in my wedding (yes 12). I took 2 of them 2 weeks ago, they picked dresses but did not pay for them yet.

Ok so yesterday I take 2 girls we get to the board of dresses that they can choose from and I find out that not only are half of the dresses being discontinued but they have also discontinued my color!! Did I get a phone call about this? No. Did they tell me this 2 weeks ago when I was there? No. Did they tell me when I made the appt for the bigger group going next week? No. So needless to say I am furios and sooo upset, I couldn't do anything but cry in the store..full blown cry! P.s I'm not a cryer. So now here I am I need a new color and I need to figure out the dresses. The other thing is, is that I was told they will get new colors and styles in December/January so I could wait for then or still keep the appt for Saturday and find a color cont

And go as planned,. i'm upset because FH family is traveling 6 hours to be at this appt sat. Yes we can cancel but I feel aweful!! I don't know shpuld I just say screw you DB since they bascially screwed up not telling me any info and go with someone else? If I do then who? I have 4 girls out of the 12 that are from different states, hence why I thought DB would be easier! Please help!

I would still go, in case you still want to get dresses from DB. You can get a general sense of style that fits your girls, or at least most of them if you want them to wear the same dress. Then when the new styles and colors come in, you can probably coordinate everyone through email. The BM's dress styles are not dramatically different in new seasons anyway.

Do you have AA in your area or some other chain where you would at least like to look? Another option is to figure out the color and let the girls pick their dress.

This sounds like its probably an easy fix. If they discontinued a color something VERY similar will be being offered instead. And, with 12 girls I'm assuming you are letting them pick their own dress style? No biggie, Im sure everyone will be able to find something they like and is flattering.

Still go to your appt and let everyone get an idea of what they like.

I would use someone else. I found David's bridal to have bad customer service AND the quality of their bridesmaid dresses isn't great AND the dresses are not even offered at some great discount. I went to weddingtonway (online) instead. Not only did I find a dress in the same price range I was going to have my bridesmaids spend at DB, Weddingtonway gave me a discount, and the dresses (Alfred Sung) are about 10 times nicer than the ones I was looking at at David's.

I have three girls out of state. I went to a local bridal place that carried my dress line (after six). One of my girls lives in colorado and has no bridal place within 6 hours so since she can't try them on... I am having her give her measurements taken and discuss with my consultant on the best size and style. I let them all pick different styles as long as they were same brand, color and material. All the out of town BM's are calling her to leave deposits and I will ship them to them so we could get a discount by ordering all together. They may have to be altered but this was the easiest way to do it with out of towners. I say start over if you have time. You don't have your date listed.

They told me that too. I thought about waiting until December too, because I'm not all that impressed with their selection right now. Do your bridesmaids get to pick their own style, but in a specific color? David's Bridal has a lot of the old colors and styles for sale online under their Outlet Store link. That way I thought they could either buy the current ones in store or buy them online for a discount if money is an issue/they like another style. They also might offer that color/style online for longer than they do in stores.

What is your color? At least they can go to figure out their sizes and the general style of dress that flatters them. Sometimes their clearance rack in stores will have some of the dresses that are out of style and being sold on the outlet store online if they want to try them on. Maybe scout out some other department stores nearby and see if you want them to go there as well. I have been looking online at Macy's, Dillards, Target, JC Penney, and DEB.

I decided to go with alfred angelo and call it a day. I am very turned off that they never said anything to me. That's bad business IMO.

I hate DB for this reason- it has happened to EVERYONE I know who has chosen to go there. We had to get our BM dresses for my cousin's wedding over a year in advance just so we could guarantee the color/style she wanted (and that was even a huge task). Glad you're going with AA- I've heard great things about them!

They may not have known when you were first there that the dresses/colors were being discontinue - it is not uncommon for that to happen in chain stores.

With that said - if you are more comfortable going somewhere else then I think that is absolutely what you should do. I hope that you find the dress/color for your BMs as that can really be a headache, especically when you are having so many.

    Good luck sweetie!

Just went to davids saturday with 2 of my bm also. In there defense they do not know to far in advance what is being discontinued so unfortunately you have to go where you are most comfortable. I kept it simple. My dresses are black so I know the color won't be gone. I will just accent with my pinks. Good luck to you. 12 is a handful of women.
