Grooms tux a different color then GM

samantha , on February 4, 2017 at 12:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

I am wondering if anyone has been to a wedding where the groom wears a totally different color then the GM? I am asking because FH wants to do this and I just can't picture it looking good. FH reasoning for this is he wants to stand out from the rest of the men. I want the GM to wear a light grey and FH wants to wear like tan? Ugh any thoughts? Should I just let him wear what he wants?

I don't know how grey and tan would look. My FH is wearing a light grey tux while the groomsmen are wearing charcoal grey.

I dont know about grey and tan...would he be willing to wear a coat and the GM just wear their vests, or maybe he could wear a black tux and the guys in grey...? Edit: The charcoal grey and light grey idea sounds good too

Totally agree grey and tan don't go together. Love the idea of maybe a different tone of grey or black.

I don't think that would look good at all. I honestly don't understand why the groom would need to drastically stand out, everyone at the wedding should know who the groom is

These are actually our colors and what the guys will be wearing.

ETA: after showing this to FH, he says that he thinks his light grey is just a tad darker than the one being shown but you can at least have a visual for your FH.

Im not sure how that would look but maybe if you go on tuxedo website where you can play around with the colors that might help. My FH is wearing a different color than our groomsmen. Our colors are pewter gray and cherry red. The girls including the flower girl will be in red and have silver accessories, the guys including the ring bearer will be in gray with red accents and since my dress in white FH is wearing white with red accents.

It's the groom's day too. If he wants to stand out a bit, he should be able to Smiley smile

I don't know about those colors matching but my groom wants to stand out too and so he's wearing black jacket, vest, basically black everything except for tie and cufflinks will be gold (our colors are black and gold) and the groomsmen will be wearing gold vest, white shirts and black coats so the groom stands out a little

I can't help with your specific colors, but FH wants to wear navy and we are considering having his GM wear grey. This pic is the look we are going for:

FH wants to do the same thing! At first I was a little apprehensive, but then I realized it's his day too so if he wants a fancy tux and wants to stand out then I support him!

He's choosing to do a navy tux with black lapels and the GM in charcoal grey

Yeah may look not so great when you go to take a picture as a whole group. But i like the idea of different shades a grey. I love grey suits - FH is wearing grey!

We are doing navy and grey too. FH will be in navy and his GM will be in grey. His groomswoman will be in the same dress as my BM but in grey.

Our groomsmen are in light grey with blue vests and ties and FH will be in all white with blue vest and tie ( I wanted a white vest & tie, but he insisted and it's his day too)

I have seen the groom in black and GM in charcoal and it looked very nice.

Not sure about grey and tan though. That may be too much of a contrast. I think they can be different but still cohesive. How about light grey for GM and charcoal for groom?

My FH is wearing a different colored vest than the groomsmen. Maybe see if he's willing to do that

FH wanted a light gray suit and the guys are in a darker gray. I recommend going to men's warehouse and have them lay out the different suits for you. The one on the right is FH's and the left will be the GMs.

We're doing this. GM in charcoal and FH in a light grey/blue. He fell in love with the suit, but didn't want to make all his gm buy it, so we worked around it. I would make sure the colors go together, but having him stand out isn't a problem (IMO). I actually think it's nice since I'll be standing out from my bridesmaids.
