Gourmet Pizza Menu for Reception - Thoughts?! (pic) *Update pg 2*

JamieLynn, on May 20, 2015 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 47

My venue (and bride) let me take my FMIL on a tour last weekend. It was set up for a wedding for that day, approx. 150 guests, (it was stunning) The tables were simplistic, and had varied levels of “trays” for the pizzas. (See pic). Verbiage on Menu Cards similar to below (the pizzas were more Gourmet, I just remember the basics) They were also doing large salads at each table – think Olive Garden Style…

Please choose 3 of the following pizzas for your table to share!

1. Brides Favorite – XXXXX

2. Grooms Favorite- XXXX

3. BBQ Chicken Pizza

4. Margherita Pizza

5. Pepperoni

6. Veggie Lovers

7. Meat Lovers Pizza

What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone done this or seen this done before? I wanted to attend this wedding just for the pizza!! Smiley smile

Also, the bride did give me permission to take photos, (encouraged it actually!) I wouldn't have done it otherwise. Smiley smile

Personally as a wedding guest I don't care what I eat as long as it's 1) hot and 2) doesn't give me food poisoning! Haha I think it would be awesome to go to a wedding like that! ... Unless it was like a black tie style event

I would love that! However, I would be worried about the pizzas staying hot. One of my pet peeves is cold/lukewarm pizza. Gotta be piping hot for me.

I love this. I think it is such a unique idea, and sounds like so much fun :-)

however I wonder if there will be any challenges with tables agreeing on which 3 pizzas to order.

Agree, for a non black-tie formal wedding, I think this is a great idea. I also wondered how they would keep them all hot. My venue has a huge oven - but nothing large enough to bake this many pizzas and have people served in a timely manor. I'm still loving this - our menu isn't finalized yet, and this is definitely getting my attention! Although, talking the FH into this vs. the steak/chicken plated meals we are planning might be a feat. He is a meat and potato type guy...

That's a great idea! Especially if there's no guests that need a gluten free option. But even then I've had gluten free pizza before that was really good.

We're doing something almost like this! But it's a traveling brick oven pizza so they cook everything on site. We pick four pizzas - margherita, pepperoni, and two of their gourmet options. We're also doing salad and pasta options, just in case pizza doesn't sit well with everyone. I'm really glad to see you all don't think it's the worst idea you've ever heard. Smiley smile

I love this idea and may have to show it to FH since he describes pizza as "the perfect food". As for the 3 choices, I think the "Bride's favorite" and "Groom's favorite" are super cute! Depending on what those choices are would be how I'd pick the last pizza choice. Otherwise, my 3 picks from that list would be BBQ chicken, Margherita, and Pepperoni (nice variety...something for everyone).

ETA: I just went back and reread the original post and realized that the "pick 3" was for each table to do so, not what our picks were. Haha...oops! I do love this idea though, and even more so now that I realize each table can customize from that list.

I think it's a great idea and so fun! I would even do it for a black tie affair as it is so different and unexpected from the norm. It's all in the simple but fabulous presentation. The pies on the table is what makes it so great. Had it been on a buffet table....not so much, and not for a black tie. This would definitely be a lead, not a follow!

^^ Agree @MrsA2B! I love the idea of pizzas on the table. I'm not a big buffet fan.

@Carly - I'm almost positive in my area we don't have a traveling brick oven pizza, (I wish), and there is no way our caterer can make it happen with the kitchen at the venue. A girl can dream! I'm going to keep looking into it. I'll see how this bride made it happen!

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.

Our reception will be outdoors. But there is an outdoor *and* an indoor kitchen that we have access to. So something like this "could" work, depending on when we could have the pizzas delivered.

    hmm....

I'd have a ball there. I wouldn't do it for a black tie, but it's really fun. Smiley smile
