Gift Giving the day of the wedding?

Chrissy4985, on February 1, 2016 at 2:37 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 35

Helllloooo ladies! Are any of you planning on exchanging gifts with your significant other the day of the wedding? How do you feel about this tradition? I am not sure if it really a tradition per say or how long people have been doing it. But, personally I think it would be cute and fun, but I kinda like all things "wedding" and if I could, I would participate in all traditions and fun things. What about you?

Our gift is each other and our rings. We have spent to much already! But if its in your budget I say go for it.

I just got a card that says, "I have loved you ___ days" and I plan to write him a little note.

We're doing gifts! Nothing crazy though. Just something to symbolize "Hey you. I love you. Yay" lol. I'm doing a watch, and letter (and now a boudoir book)

I wanted blue diamond earrings to wear for our wedding. We meant to do gifts at the RD, but DH forgot, so FIL ended up dropping them off at my parents' while out on his bike ride the morning of the wedding.

Hi Chrissy4985! I would say about 1/2 the couples I photograph exchange notes/gifts.

I have seen a pocket watch, bracelet, house key, new stationary with the Bride's soon to be last name, ... IMO, it's something "newish" that I've been witnessing for only the past 5 or so years. That makes me wonder if it started with Pinterest! All gift exchanges were timed when the couple could be alone and truly enjoy and be in the moment, whether they did it together or alone.

    Best wishes.

Like Kathryn said, we've already spent so much we're not going to do gifts to each other. that being said, every holiday we've planned this so far- he buys a gift secretly and I look like a schmuck!

I think I'm going to buy myself some blue Tacori studs as my own little gift for conquering the wedding without tears or blood (so far!)

We did it beforehand, at home, with just the two of us.

I hear you @novaknuptials2016 and @ Kathryn. I like the idea of a card and I think you should go for the studs. @kahlcara, I think that was sweet. @Silesha your gifts sound great!

We did it while we were each getting ready so both could be filmed and photographed. Our junior bridesmaids, my nieces, swaped the gifts for us. He got me a necklace and I got him a keychain engraved with his dads handwriting. And we wrote each other a card. It was really sweet, but expensive. We had a limit - $100 and DH went well over. I loved it but wasn't pleased he didn't listen. I also got him a boudoir book that I gave him the night before after the RD when we said goodbye. So I actually spend more than $100 too, oops.

I believe we are doing gifts, I haven't asked him if he's getting me anything but I plan on getting him something. I actually plan on getting him a Yeti Cooler and writing a note along the lines 'May our marriage last forever just like ice in a Yeti Cooler' He's been talking about buying one of these coolers for 3 years and I think it would be a great gift to give him. I know we've spent a lot of money but I really want to be able to give him something for being so amazing through all the planning.

@Jess does your fiancé normally carry a handkerchief? If not, you can get a note stamped into a piece of metal the size of a credit card that can always be carried in a wallet or pocket. Just an idea.

@Brit12 that is SUCH a good idea. FH does deep sea competitive fishing so that is a useful gift, I'll have to look into it for a birthday gift Smiley smile

We are sticking to notes/cards to each other. Our wedding cost is being split 50%/50% by us so we're technically calling that our gift. Maybe will get each others rings but for now, just the card.

Sorry you went over budget @Melissa, however I think its sweet and I am sure you cherish the gift as well as the moment. So sweet. @JessRSJ, great idea. I think a limit is nice, to not get to carried away. @Brit12, ooooh, that's sweet, I think he will love it.

We planned to exchange vows written in vow books prior to the ceremony. we wrote them for each other privately and recited more traditional vows in front of our guests. When we exchanged (via our BM and MOH) i had thrown in a handkerchief with a custom message, special cuff links and a favorite (and hard to find) candy bar along with my vows...and wouldn't you know when his vows came to me, there was a bottle of my favorite perfume accompanying the vow book Smiley smile

We actually did decide to give each other gifts on our wedding day. I'm giving my FH a watch, because he loves watches and also because he's ALWAYS late to everything! So it's also kind of a joke between us. Smiley winking I'll write him a note to go with it, and will probably include a reminder not to be late.

I think I'll give this to his mom to give him the day of, since he and his groomsmen are getting ready at her house.

I am actually keeping a journal to give to FH the day of and it has the reason why I love him for each day. We are exchanging gifts because he really wants a shot gun with our wedding date carved into it and he is getting me a purple glock with the wedding date on it. My FH is big into doomsday prepping and it was always a joke that we have. Gifts don't always need to be big just remember he will love whatever you get him

We exchanged gifts! DH gave me a pair of diamond earrings, and I gave him a watch box. Reading the card might have been my favorite part Smiley smile

We weren't going to and I'm a cheap ass, so I thought it was unnecessary. I don't know when Ian changed his mind, but at some point he started talking about getting me a wedding gift. I know if he was talking about it I needed to get him something too. Now.... As I said before, I'm a cheap ass. I mean... Valentine's Day he asked me what I would like to do. I told him we really needed to go to Costco. Why didn't I want to go out for a nice dinner or a movie? Because that money could be used for something more useful. Like food for our home. See... Cheap ass. SO! Against every bone in my body that was telling me not to blow $450 on a stupid WWE Heavyweight Wrestling Championship belt. I did. I bought the damn belt. I actually know what he got me because he used our shared credit card for it lol. He doesn't think I actually look at what's purchased. I have been eyeballing this ring at a local jeweler for about 7 months. I kept talking about it and he kept telling me, "Maybe for our 5 year anniversary I'll get it for you.", but he got it for me! So my plan is to give him the card with the typical boudoir pictures telling him that I just couldn't justify the cost right now, yadda, yadda, yadda. A couple hours later when we do our first look, I'm going to come out wearing the belt. Which weighs a million pounds btw. So I'm going to upset him before I make him happy lol.
