So, the woman says she will not see FH and my wedding as we are REALLY married if we do not get married in a church. (we plan on getting married right at the hall were our dinner will be).

I say.... then fine, stay home. I do not like this woman!!!

Some older women are just set in their ways. Especially religious ones. You did good.

My mom said something simular..I told her I didn't know if we needed to decorate a 'siging of the register table' for our JP wedding, as some officiants legally marry you before the wedding so there isn't a long, sometimes uncomfortable ceremony..Which I have been to a few weddings where there was no signing of the register BECAUSE they were legally marrried before the ceremony..Well, she flipped her lid "Then I don't know why you are doing this whole thing then if you're just going to be legally married the day before the wedding" And then I lost it on her.. I said yes, we may or may not be legally married before the actual ceremony, but the wedding ceremony is what's IMPORTANT to us to have! It's our day and no one elses, get over it (turns out our officant does do signing of the register at the actual ceremony)

Good for you. Don't let her start stepping all over you now or she'll continue to do it after the wedding.

    Thank you every one.....

This woman is unbelievable. Extremely lazy, that is why she has been in an assistant living place for 3 years and she is only 66. All she wants to do all day is watch tv and have people wait on her.

She is already bitching - asking, "who is bringing me home after the dinner?" My FH said, "don't look at me, it is my wedding". I wanted to say, call a taxi.

Well, since she isn't going, she doesn't have to worry about anyone bringing her home now.

Oh she will go....so she can bitch to everyone how it isn't a real wedding because it isn't at a church. Also, so she can bitch that she wants to go home to watch tv.

And last but not least.... FH's dad and mom have been divorced for 29 years, and she can't stand him. So, she will be bitching the whole time that he is there.

@Mrs Schmidt; when we talked about getting legally married before the wedding to help us get a loan for the house my mom said almost the exact same thing to me!

Lol. Sorry to hear of that. However if she is religious I can see her point....not to downgrade your feelings on her response, though. It IS still your decision and she'll just have to understand that. My mom had the same issue....only she isn't religious! When she asked if there is a religious aspect I said no, and she sighed heavily to express her discontent. I asked her, what's it to you? You haven't stepped into a church in 30 years. That shut her up. lol

Wow, good for you! Glad you're not being overly harsh, since you do have to live with her for a while, but it's great that you're standing up for yourself!
