Failed DIY projects

Charla, on March 4, 2015 at 4:19 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Some of us are more crafty than others and sometimes the vision in your mind isn't all you thought it would be in real life.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's had Pinterest or wedding DIY fails. Here's a picture of the wire hangers I attempted for my BM's. I gave up and bought them on Etsy.

That looks way better than I could do!

I haven't really "failed" at any yet, but I gave up on a few without even trying them, or delegated them to someone else. Haha

We are making our own bouquets, and when we did our mini test run, FH was way better at it than I was, so he gets to do the real ones now.

I was planning on making my own invitations, but once I added up the cost it would be, I realized it'll be cheaper to print them from staples without all the unnecessary fanciness I wanted.

I was planning on making my BM's dresses and I did a trial dress that looks beautiful, but now I'm thinking I'm too lazy to do the real things. I'm letting my BMs decide what they want now. If they want the dresses I'll make them, if not, fend for yourselves, ladies.

    That isn't bad at all.

I tried decoupaging the hangers..nope, hit the restart button. I used stickers instead to spell out their names and will varnish them when done.

My card box looks looked like crap too so my SIL is going to make it for me instead.

I want to be crafty, I really really do.

Hahaha. You guys are flattering but the picture doesn't do the hanger justice. It has a bunch of dents and nicks from the pliers I used.

@FutureMrsDean it went much better than expected. Great time. And got great gifts. Made me more excited for the big day.

I think the hanger looks fine. if you don't care for it, you could add a flower or bow or something to it, but I like it the way it is Smiley smile

How about getting some nice hangers and make a sachet to hang from them?

I tried to jazz up a folder when I was going to do a physical wedding binder.. Glue gun plus me = folder stuck to desk.

A knitted ring cushion also ended up with a massive hole of missed stitches right in the middle... which wasn't noticed till I'd taken it off the loom and "completed" it (or so I'd thought)

I'm staying clear of DIYs and roping in more crafty relatives (such as my mum who has jumped at the chance to do anything because she adores crafts/making things on the cheap)

Charla, I agree. You can't just tie a bow around anything and make it pretty. Stop looking at Pinterest, ladies. You don't need it....you really don't. One of the funniest things on the internet is Pinterest Fails. Really, you'll laugh.

Im like @Kassy on the DIY... I had big dreams for all the DIY I was going to do for my wedding, but I would google supplies & the how-to I decide I wasnt going to even attempt. I just wanna be married already, is that too much for a girl to ask?

I made those balloon string balls, but I cheaped out and bought balloons at the dollar store. They only had water balloons, which I actually wasn't able to blow up, so I actually filled them with water. I had to then put a piece of tape on them to be able to poke a hole without them exploding. My mom helped and we used sugar water to set the string. It ended up a very sticky, wet mess by the time we were done, but they turned out!

There are no words to describe the bundt cake pumpkin.

With all DIY crafting, your mantra should be... its all about samples. I know timing can get in the way, but Pinterest is really run by full-time Ph.D. elvish crafters who have nothing else to do and have unlimited budgets... lol Beyond that, we have to see where our talents lie and how lucky we are. If you like something, try it out. Sometimes the directions are good, other times.... not. Your hanger is certainly better than I could have ever done. Try it... if it doesn't work, move on. There's hundreds of things we can find on Pinterest.
