Can't Handle It: Too Many Double Ring Avatars

Hot Like Bea, on April 5, 2016 at 11:01 PM

Hey ya'll - change your pictures, because the double-ring screams "I'm spam, I'm a troll!" No one wants to be spam, and no one wants to be a troll.

Like Courtney N. said, you can still change your avatar on mobile - you just need to open the internet browser on your phone, go to the wedding wire website, log in, account settings, and then adjust your avatar.

Resetting your password takes about as much time and effort as emailing the mods your picture. Just saying.

Random aside: what do you all think of people with non-personal avatars/usernames (aka, users like me, lol). I am kind of a freak over Internet privacy due to some bad past experiences, and while I have posted pics with my face in them on here, I figure those take more digging than having my face and name associated with every post (though I obviously know from those past experiences that people can still find those pictures). I guess I'm just surprised by how many people use their names and photos on here compared to WW or TK, and wonder if those who choose not to do so are perceived differently by the community since they are still rather anonymous.

TwoStep- I still recognize them just as easily. Like O&S was a grumpy baby, Stephanie is two silver rings, Mrs.Kassy is the two bears...we don't need to know what you look like, we just need to be able to tell you apart!

Second what Holly said - I mean, just look at my avatar. No matter how hard I try, I'm not Dorothy or Bea Arthur.

@twostep I've never felt treated differently for being anonymous. If anything, I'm told I look adorable and cuddly Smiley winking

Most of the time, I don't even open threads started by double ring avatars. Giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying you're not a troll/spammer, it says you don't care enough about the community or reading WW's own FAQ/lingo/guidelines sticky post (first item there is change your avatar). In the end, you likely won't take us seriously so why waste my time?

@Holly - I know. I'm so sorry. I can only do my best to channel their spirits. I hope that some day I will be wearing shoulder pads, eating midnight cheesecakes, and be able to fling insults quicker than Blanche gets under her next boyfriend.

Ever heard the expression 'he who smelt it dealt it?'

I've seen a lot of people who participate in sites like these stir up aggravation about 'problems with trolls' claiming that there are terrible trolls, that the proof is if they do this or that. Such as on this site 'a troll posts under the ring avatars'

then said person goes and makes a post just as they described, such as make a post under a ring avitar. Then yell all over 'see! I told you this stuff happened! Here's the proof I'm right!' when they are the ones who posted the 'proof'

StitchingBride, I'm confused. Are you calling Bea a troll?

Am I dumb or did that not make any sense?

    It didn't make sense.

Also to clarify I am not a Possum. I just love this picture.

The first sentence in the forum guidelines says to change your avatar. So its not like some unwritten rule of WW.

And people that are part of a community then complain about said community can leave. Which is why a bunch of vets on WW have left.

Bye Felicia no one wants your bad advice.

    No, that made no sense.

Also, as much as I wanted to be a flowing tower of champagne, I eventually came out of anonymous land and changed my avatar to an actual picture of myself. But it doesn't have to be!

And yes, I have heard "he who smelt it dealt it," but not since second grade.

Maybe the people who have ring pictures have a life outside of wedding wire.

@StitchingBride - Are you calling me a troll? 'Cause thems fightin' words. Also, who is doing all of this posting under double rings just to stir up trouble?

So Bronwen has no life, clearly.

One day people will realize that "troll" is a very specific definition of a person who does a specific thing and is NOT an insult nor can be used as one. If you are, you are, if you're not, you're not.

    Alrighty - easy everyone!

Updating your avatar from the double rings (or default icons on the app) is not a rule, just something that we strongly strongly encourage Smiley smile It helps people follow the conversation, get to know each other, and fosters a true sense of community.

Do trolls and spam normally have double rings? Yes, most of the time. Is everyone with the double rings a troll? No, of course not.

Bronwen- I have a life too. It's called work, and who wants to actually do that? Ugh.
