Candy Bar at Reception

Beth, on July 28, 2010 at 10:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

For favors, we are thinking about doing a candy "bar" with about 5 or 6 different candies for guests to choose from. We would have a table set up with bowls full of the candy, and have some organza drawstring bags for people to take some candy home with them.

Have you seen this at any weddings you have been to, or are any of you doing this at your reception?

We are having trouble finding the bowls for the candy and a place to find the little scoopers. Any ideas?

You can use any kind of glass dishes, vases, etc. I found plastic food tongs which can also work 4 for $1 @ the Dollar Tree. We picked them up for our veggie trays, etc. And lots of girls on here are doing the Candy Buffet, it's popular this wedding season.

For our bowls and dishes, I picked most of them from Goodwill and thrift stores in various shapes and sizes. I picked up a few nice ones like a large margarita glass and large martini glass from Michaels with a 50% off coupon. For the candy scoops, Walmart has them in their kitchen gadget aisle $3 for a three pack. Hope that helps!

I was going to suggest thrift stores like CustomAisle said. I was going to do one also until I found out that ALOT of people do it. It's cute, but I want something a little unique.

I did this at wedding and the guest really enjoyed it. I used mason jars and other glass jars that I found at dollar tree or goodwill, etc. I got MM' to match my wedding colors, and gumballs, etc. I tried to get an assortment of both hard & soft candies so their would be something for everyone.

My wife did a HUGE candy bar for our daughters wedding. It was about 12 feet long. Way to big but it was really cool and everyone talked about it. She bought jars at Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge. Small scoops at Arney's in Houston. She bought the bags online. They were clear bags with black polka dots.

I went to a wedding last year that did that, their colors were B&W so all the candy was chocolate for black or yogurt covered for white. the doggie bags had the bride & groom's monogram on them, it was nice.

These are what we will be using for the candy. And Im going to just use votive candle holders for the candles. Also around the center of the glass containers, Im going to put ribbons. And we are getting letters for the table that will say LOVE IS SWEET. My colors are lime and red with accents of emerald. Im going to try to find drawstring baggies for people to bring the candy home with them.

    Here is my candy buffet.

@Kay P. I got most of my glasswear at TJ Maxx and Flower Factory. Michaels has some and I also saw huge brandy glasses at Petsmart in the goldfish isle. Walmart also has some large ones.

I did purchase the metal scoops at walmart but didnt use them because I was afraid with metal being used to scoop it may brake the glass too easily.

Well you can find them at Michael's..I know they are kind of expensive but they send out coupons where you can get 10-20% off of a purchase or an item. you just got to keep an eye out. There is also other craft stores you can look and see. I know that the .99 store has glass vases sometimes that you can use.
