Bridesmaids - Convertible Dresses

Stefanie, on August 13, 2013 at 11:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I am considering classic long convertible dresses for the bridesmaids, similar to:

http://twobirdsbridesmaid.com/collection/classic/

I am looking for feedback on these types of dresses.

-Are they easy to wrap into the advertised styles

-Do they compliment most body types

-Are they worth the money?

I'm using them and got them from Von Vonni for $59 using a living social thing. My girls all tried them on last weekend when I was home for my shower and they really liked them. It was fun because we tried the same styles on each girl and everyone had a style that looked better on them than the others. The body types for my girls varies and they didn't have any problems with them but I've heard different reviews from others, especially since it's difficult to wear a regular strapless bra with them...you need the sticky bras for most styles.

Just make sure you pick a good color, I regretted mine. I have beige skin and picked a beige. Doh so it looks like I am naked when I wear mine. Versatile yes, but I recommend a tube top with the purchase as it will not be stable.

I'm small with very large chesticles. I got myself one before I asked my girls to get them, JIC. I didn't like it. It just doesn't look right on me, even when I added a bandeau top. So I would suggest that you have your girls try it on FIRST, to make sure it does look good and they are comfortable in it, if possible. But there are Etsy vendors and LS deals that would get you the dresses for less than Two Birds. Lots of other ladies on here have had great success with them.

My cousin had her BM in dresses like that for her wedding, they were not flattering at all but it could of just been the material... It seemed very stretchy/clingy

I've seen them done, and they looked great on the girls, from large to small. So I really think it may depend on the wrap dress itself, and I have no way of figuring out where the ones I saw were from.

A couple of my girls tried on the twobirds and loved it but not the price (with the trunk show discount, it was still $279 - I couldn't ask them to pay that). But someone recommended a website to me that has a similar dress for less than half the cost(!!!). I admit, I was hesitant, so I ordered one for myself to see the quality and color - it was perfect (we're doing navy)! My bridesmaids just received theirs and love them (and couldn't beat the price at around $115). It's still jersey fabric, but slightly more structured than the twobirds version. Can't wait to see my girls in them (58 days and counting)!

I love them but not for my body because IMO they accentuate every roll and I would not want that but then again everyone is different.

Convertible dresses were my choice for my bridesmaids but because I wanted them from a seamstress on Etsy, making every dress to order, I wanted to try it out for myself first. So we went with the Ballgown style maxi length. I ordered mine in white so that I could possibly take pictures with my girls. My dress was shipped today, so it should be here in a couple of days and I will update you ladies on how it looks!

    Happy planning! :-)

I bought them for my girls $35 a piece at target! Depending on the style is what depends on there back being out or not. The girls ended up all finding styles they liked and they were very easy to do thankfully!

I loved the look of convertible dresses for my BMs but couldn't commit when it boiled down to it. It looked get of some BMs and not on others. We tried them on at a norstroms. I was heartbroken but choose to get their dresses in a chiffon material so it was still had the "flowy" look I was going for.

Good luck and BE CAREFUL with ordering dresses online, especially from shops overseas! Definitely order one first (with no custom measures) just to get a feel for it!

I haven't ever tried one on, but my FH's cousin just got married in April and his wife put her girls in these dresses. most of the girls in her bridal party were slim and you could still see every dimple on their body. I remember them telling me they had to go to victoria secret and get specific underwear for these dresses to that you would see the underwear line. Thongs were not flattering in this dress. It was also very hard to strategically cover up the bra.

I will say that the good thing about the dress is that it fit every girl of every size and it looked cute to have them all design it in a different way that best flattered their body. I helped one of the bridesmaids with tying it and it was not diffucult at all, we just followed the YouTube videos that are out there.

FYI - Dessy sells it for WAAAAAAY cheaper than $310

    http://www.dessy.com/dresses/twist-long/#.Ug0zv22O7q4

    $180

ETA - I wore the short version to my friend's wedding last year. They were ok for me and another girl, but we're petite. She had a few heavy chested bms that had a bit more difficulty with support.

Love love that dress because you can have each bridesmaid wear a different style but same dress.. I think it looks best in black or grey!

But it wouldnt look good on thick girls.. I would go for it if your girls are skinny... all my bridesmaids are skinny besides one of my bridesmaids is pregnant...

Only thing I will say is that if any of your girls are very busty they will need to have support and they will have a hard time working a bra into this type of dress.

I think the dresses are cute, and very versatile.. but agreed that your bridesmaids have to be kind of thin for them to look right since a lot of the options the back is out.. also $310, would be a lot to ask my bridesmaids to spend considering they will have other expenses dealing with my wedding. However I say go for it if your girls like them and the price is ok with everyone.
