And this is why I tan.... lol

TheOGJesse's Girl, on February 7, 2014 at 9:41 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 86

My friend posted this on facebook this morning and tagged me in it... Hilarious!!! Because when people ask me why I am tanning (yes, fake bake in the tanning bed) THIS is my reply. Yeah yeah, it's bad for me. It causes wrinkles. I know I know... lecturing me won't change my mind. LOL.

I'm sorry. I have to. My dad died from skin cancer last year.

Barbara=Debbie Down=Negative Nancy=Buzz Kill but the facts are irrefutable and alternatives (e.g., spraytan) exist.

Yep, I know all about that too. I don't tan like every day all year long.....

Cigarettes kill people too, but tons of people do that too.

Artificial sweeteners, fatty foods, etc kill people and people over indulge all the time.

I tanned until I had kids and then it just felt selfish. I miss it though. You can't find that kind of heat in Western PA in the dead of winter.

I tan but very slow and over a long period of time to get the right shade lol. Im irish so my pale skin burns easy. Once i get a color ill spray tan after that. If people avoided everything that could kill us, we'd live in a bubble

barbara- im sorry for your loss : ( I didnt see your post..

There ARE healthy alternatives. But I will probably be working on a natural tan in the sun, with TONS of SPF slathered on...so I am not one to lecture. I do not want dark...I want GLOW. =) I do find Jergens tanning lotion is the BOMB...does not look orange-y or streaky at all...VERY natural. No build up.

I love tanning beds, nice even tan. I do it for a month once a year. The tan usually lasts for me so i dont need to go too often.

I've only been tanning twice. I was desperate to get rid of my pasty winter complexion before going to Florida.

I think I'll have to spray tan or something for the wedding. I still have a slight tan line from the summer that will show through the back of my dress. Smiley sad

I don't understand the "Well, you do other things that harm you too" logic. It's a PROVEN fact that tanning can cause skin cancer -- why needlessly expose yourself to one more thing that's harmful (and makes your skin wrinkly, to boot)?

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox. I have several friends who got skin cancer and it's a touchy subject for me.

And it's a PROVEN fact that cigarettes harm you too.

It's a PROVEN fact that not wearing your seat belt puts you at risk.

My point is that EVERYONE chooses to do something that isn't necessarily the healthiest thing for him/her, however it is a personal choice.

Do I know that tanning isn't good for me? Sure. But I don't tan every day, and I don't tan all year long either. I will tan for a month before my wedding because I want to look my best. To me, it's just like having my makeup and my hair done. I don't expect everyone to agree.

I'm not going to lie, I tanned. I would have spray tanned, but I was afraid it would rub off on my dress. I was almost the color of my dress in my bridals...

Ashleigh, I think your skin looks beautiful in your bridals.

I also had a friend pass away when I was young from melanoma. Despite pretty pale lineage, I somehow have somewhat olive toned skin. I'll probably do a spray tan before the wedding but I just don't think tanning is worth it.

Ashleigh, for the same reason, I won't be spray tanning either. I would DIE if it streaked or wasn't even or even came off on my dress on the wedding day. One month of tanning (in which I go a total of twice - or maybe 3 times - per week) is the chance I'm taking.
