Advice please- Ivory gown but wedding colors are black, white & red.

Ann, on June 26, 2012 at 6:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I found a gown I love and looks great so I purchased it. I'm an older bride and this looks elegant, mature and still sexy. It's a very light ivory (not champagne) My only concern is my wedding colors are black & white damask design with pops of red. Is this going to look strange? I sure hope not as I don't want to change my colors either. My FH suit is black and I was thinking an ivory shirt to match me. I'm attaching a pic from DB, picture it in Ivory. thanks for any feedback.

I have an ivory dress as well. I cut out white because I didn't want my dress to look dirty. I think it really depends where the white is going to be. Is it just decor or is it on the bridal party?

*Since it's just in the decor I think it will work fine.

I think the colors will be fine. I do agree with you that FH should wear an ivory shirt to match your dress.

I'm usually on the side of not mixing ivory and white, but if all of the "white" is going to be mixed with the black in the damask pattern, I wouldn't worry about it. However, if you are talking about solid white vs ivory, I would go ivory wherever you can Smiley smile

Hi color twin! My dress is ivory and I am doing black/white damask and red. With all the DIYs and everything put together it's looking really nice. Your's will look great also.

I had the exact same color combination, and my dress was champagne, so darker than ivory. You really can't tell in the pictures. Plus, I don't believe the bride's gown has to match the colors in the decor. You're not decor :-)

Thanks everyone. I feel alot better. There is no "strictly white" in anything. Even the table linens are black with a b&w runner and red roses for centerpieces. Ester C, good to hear that we are color twins. Would love to see some pic's of your decor. When I get mine put together I'll post some pics too.

You should be just fine. The ivory dress, with white in other aspects will look great. I actually prefer ivory. Much easier for most people to wear. White can be so harsh.

If your guests are trying to hold up bits of your dress to see whether they match the white in a damask pattern, you're inviting the wrong guests! LOL

Ya I don't think it's a big deal either..I also had a light ivory dress, DS wore a ivory shirt from MW..I also had white linens that were included with our venue; it was never an issue at all. It's not like people will have you stand against the decor and use a magnifying glass to scrutinize the comparison anyways lol! Also any differences that were there were not noticeable in any of my pics or IRL. :-)

Well, in the beginning, our colors were white, black and red! But the same thing happened to me. I fell in love and purchased my ivory wedding dress. So I changed the colors to ivory, black and red at my MOH strong suggestion. Since I hadn't started planning no big deal. My BM's dresses were going to be black, but they all feel in love with the red, so again no big deal.

However, I feel in love with having peacock feathers in the decor so now I am at ivory, black and royal blue.

Second ,however, I really love the idea of green incorporated into the centerpieces!

Why must we pick colors? I love them all

My dress is champagne, my table clothes a very pale ivory, my BM are pale yellow, my flower girls dress is white, and people are just going to have to deal with it. lol. The only think I would like to change is the BM dress. I'd rather have her in an ivory, but she got her dress before i got mine.
