Dimmed lights for ceremony or not ? Néed help

Lynnie Pin, on January 28, 2014 at 8:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

So in my venue they have two light settings, dim (reception dimmed, pretty dark) or all the way on. Now I'm stuck because everyone is tellin me to leave them on for the ceremony and cocktail hour but then my altar won't be lit up as pretty and it won't look as pretty when guests walk in.... But on the other hand....when it's dark, it is pretty dim inside

I would agree with everyone else. If you only have two options, I'd go with the lights on for the ceremony.

I actually think some of my pictures suffered because our ceremony was dim. our photographer was great, but we had a white backdrop on one side of the room and the other side was darker so I think with everything happening all at once there wasn't always time to adjust appropriately

it was beautiful - i loved our ceremony, but it's something else to consider ... let me try to find an example...

ETA: Found an example. The first picture is my brother and I during the daylight when our ceremony space was lit by the windows. the second is my husband and I after the sun went down, standing in the same spot. (again, not blaming my photog.) I just wanted to illustrate the potential difference for your photos. There are some GREAT shots of the ceremony - this is not one of them - but they are much different than the ones in the light, that's all
