Dilemma?! To have wedding shower or not? Where?

It's been hard deciding if I want to have a wedding/bridal shower anymore. I had plenty of ideas to theme it...however, location is my problem.


I live in TX now and most of our friends and family are in CA. We are having our wedding in TX because it'll be convenient to us more so since we are planning without parents help.
I feel like if we fly back to LA, it'll be tough to bring gifts back via plane. Not knowing what people will get us. We feel if we have it in TX, it'll be costly for some folks to fly twice for our shower and wedding even if they are months apart.
Here are some ideas that came by. Let me know your thought.- have it in LA, but let people know if it's a big gift please have it shipped to house.- I kinda heard about virtual showers...not really sure what it is- no need shower, gifts can be brought to wedding.- have it in TX still and risk no one showing- have it in TX closer to wedding date since the people you care may fly in early

    Maybe have it in CA, ask people to ship the gifts to your house in TX, and just bring cards to the shower?

    Who is throwing your bridal shower? Wouldn’t it be on them to plan? If someone in TX throws your shower then it’s in TX, you as the bride don’t throw your own shower so I would talk to whoever is planning it and see what they are thinking.

    I would have the shower in Cali, and handle gifts as Gen suggested. Good luck!

    A person may throw it but the bride can help. If it's who to invite that should be on the bride. Brides have always given lists of who can come and have some say in the venue of the host is flexible. If in CA then big gifts shipped to your home but kind of piggy backing that is if someone in CA is willing to plan it. If you're planning to throw your own then I would make it more of a casual brunch at your place but not a shower. Officially a shower should be hosted by someone else but i don't see why you can't help.

    I live in Colorado and had a shower in SC. I had a Zola registry where people can order the gifts and then Zola will ship them directly to your house. My hostesses also recommended people get gift cards. People actually loved getting the gift cards because it was easy and I waited until I got home to open them because it would have been awkward. No one ordered off Zola until the week of the wedding. We had food and games and it was fun. It’s not traditional or what’s recommended on here but it worked well for my friends and family.

    My maid of honor will most likely plan it. I'm just helping her. I'm thinking if I still want one or skip it due to where I moved too.
