Digital portraits as wedding favor

SR, on June 8, 2021 at 3:43 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hey guys, wanted to get your opinions on giving our guests digital portraits as wedding favors. Basically, we'd have 2-3 artists on iPads walking around during the reception to sketch portraits of our guests and email it to them afterwards. We are also thinking of printing out the portraits on-site to give to guests. What do you guys think of digital portraits and/or portrait print-outs in lieu of a wedding favor?

Hi! So I am having digital sketches done at my wedding in October. I think it is something that's fun and unique for guests! I'm not having them printed out for guests on site but if they are going to be considered favors then it might be best to have them printed for guests that night to take home. Our artists posts all the sketches on her Facebook on top of emailing them to guests so I'm going to download them and have them printed to send along with our thank you cards Smiley smile

I love the idea! But I’m a bit biased. We hired an artist for the reception and she’s painting quick 5- minute watercolor portraits of guests to take home as favors. Your idea is similar and I think it would be great because it’s a personalized keepsake from your wedding instead of something random or useless. We don’t have to deal with the printing part of it. Also, our entire reception is cocktail style. So guests will have the entire reception timeframe to make their way to her table.

I'm so glad to hear you guys are doing this too! I think I like the idea more than a photobooth since we'll have our photographers take photos of guests anyways.

@Sexypoodle does your artist require a large set-up space? We originally wanted on-paper portraits, but they requested a large table with chairs that we just weren't sure we'd have space for at our smallish venue.

Keep in mind that unless favors are edible, they will be left behind. Spend your money on what guests will actually notice and appreciate: great food, drinks they don’t have to pay for and a great dj or it the money toward photography/videography.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed at weddings too--most people don't seem to appreciate little items as favors. That's why we were hoping people would enjoy prints of painted portraits of themselves more as favors.

Be prepared for leftovers anyway. Some questions are something only your guests can answer so ask your family/friends if they would like photos or better food/drinks/dj.

Oh we're definitely not skimping on food/drinks/DJ just to hire these artists (or at least we'd better be getting good quality for the fees we're paying the caterer and DJ!).

This sounds like so much fun! I'd love this.

To be honest, I think the best favours are things that guests don't feel obliged to keep - things that are edible or one-and-done usable/useful - soaps, biscuits, hot chocolate kits, olive oil, etc, because then at least they are useful!

A digital portrait is also a great idea - because it's so personal to each guest, and because it's digital there's nothing for them to carry home if they don't want.

Thanks guys! I'm liking this idea more and more now. That's also a great point about people not having to carry something back home with them, especially as a lot of our guests will be from out of town.
