Differentiating Bridesmaid Dresses

Jessie, on March 21, 2019 at 12:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Hello everyone! So, my bridesmaids are located all over the place, and I really loved the idea of everyone choosing their own dress and style, but having them all be the same color (burgundy). So to help them out, I gave them several options to choose from on www.lulus.com . They all chose their favorite dresses, and I ordered them myself just to be sure they were all the same colors in person (Lulus has free shipping and returns). The problem is that every single one of the dresses was a slightly different shade. My question is, how big of a problem is this? Will that look bad if all of the dresses are slightly differentiating shades of the same color? Or would it be fine? I'm starting to lose my mind a little bit over here trying to decide so any insight anyone could give me would be so very much appreciated! Smiley smile

It’s really up to you how big of a deal you think it is. You can’t guarantee that any two dresses will be the exact same color unless they’re the same brand, fabric, and dye lot.

I think that’s one of those “to each their own” things. I think it’s totally fine. I might have the same thing too since I’m ordering from Azazie. One of my bridesmaids is using a dress from a previous wedding since it’s the same color of mine so her shade might be slightly different then the rest. I don’t think anyone will care though and it might look kind of cool in pictures. Or you might not even notice it in pictures

Personal preference. It probably wouldn't bother me, but you can ask the business you ordered them from if there is anyway to return them and have them dyed in the same batch if it really bothers you.

We used azazie. I have my bridesmaids in burgundy. I picked a convertible dress. I have my maid and matron of honor in burnt orange and they picked their dresses

How different are they? You may be the only one who truly notices.

I think you’re fine! The lighting is making the ones on the end look darker but honestly they look pretty much identical to me.

I think it would only really be a problem if there was only 1 that was a different color, that to me would look unintentional but if they are all slightly different it looks more like that is how it was meant to be. Personally I am not a big fan of the mismatch thing so ti would probably drive me up a wall (I'm all about symmetry) but I totally get those who like it and those who do it.

It would bother me but that doesn't make it a big deal at all lol. I didn't even want them wearing different dresses if I could avoid it and luckily I was able to but I've seen it look fine the other way too.

It's not a big problem at all, and in fact, I can barely see a difference in the pics you posted. I also had my girls choose whatever long, burgundy dress they wanted and didn't care about the fabric or what store they bought them from. Each of them bought their own dress from different places and while the shades are very slightly different, you really can't tell a difference. Here are some pics.

I agree with the others, if it's a big deal to you, then it's a big deal. If not, then it's not. I personally would think slight shade variations will 1) look totally fine and 2) probably not be all that noticeable from farther away.

I had orginally said they could choose different styles but same color. But then I saw the shades were different and it was a big deal to me personally. So I had them all get the same dress. But again that was me personally.

I don't see any difference in those dresses, except for the light in the room where you took the picture.

This is probably one of those things that you might notice, because you're the bride, and you're focused on it. But nobody else will even notice.

I personally hate when things don't match so it would drive me crazy. I think it really depends on your personality. From the pictures, it is kind of hard to tell.

I am doing the same exact thing from Lulu's (varying styles of dresses in burgundy) and noticed that they vary slightly in shade. It bothered me at first but after seeing photos of mixed shade dresses it made me feel better. If one dress is too red or too purple you could maybe veto that one and pick another that matches more closely.

My phone made these look different than they are in real life but Lulu's told me there was no way to control color shade among different dresses. I still think they look even more similar than the other photo I attached!

I think this is one of those topics that is truly up to your preference. I have seen some weddings where brides do this and it looks great. I think it really depends on if you are OK with that look or if you would prefer it more unison.

    Hi Jessie!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley heart

This decision has to be made based on your personal preference! Maria's picture above gives you a visual of how varying colors would look.

For me personally, this would not bother me!

Is having the same color across the bridal party important to you?
