Different Religious Groups In One Wedding?

The Bride, on June 14, 2019 at 8:19 PM Posted in Planning 1 47
My husband and I are Christian and although most of our wedding guests were Christians a few were not. One of my bridesmaids is Muslim and sported her hajab, a handful of our friends are Catholic, and a couple of our family members are Jehovah's Witnesses.

Will there be different Religious groups at your wedding? Why or why not?

Interesting. How do you think the differences in your religious views will impact your marriage?

Catholic is basic my a Christian. There may be some differences. Most of the core beliefs are the same. I grew up catholic. My fiancé and I are atheist. We have some Christians in wedding party.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you change your religious beliefs from Catholic to Atheist? Also, how do you feel about having Christians in your wedding considering you don't share the same beliefs?

Good question 🤔I don’t feel that there will be much of an impact in our marriage. Although I’m sure that it has impacted my FH a lot cuz he wasn’t really a practicing Christian. Also I grew up in a very diverse community, both religious and cultural, so I’m used to the multiple religious views. But this has been a long distance relationship so who knows what the future will bring, but so far there hasn’t been any issues. I was worried about the fact that we are having a traditional Catholic ceremony and don’t know how his side of the family will fare through it.

Thank you for sharing! I recently went to a Catholic ceremony and was so different from what I'm used to, I enjoyed it though.

Yes. There are so many. The families are just too big for it to not happen naturally. Smiley tongue

I agree, it's really difficult to try to streamline one religious group at a wedding.

I am Greek orthodox, my immediate family (mom, dad and one sister) and one of my bridesmaids are also orthodox but my FH and his family are either Methodist and Lutheran. My brother is baptist and my other sister is nondenominational. My MOH is atheist and most of my extended family is too. It's a whole mesh of religions but we are doing a traditional Orthodox ceremony and an American reception so that I get my fairy tale wedding but the guests aren't overwhelmed!

I’m catholic and so is my whole family. Then my fiancé’s whole family is Buddhist. In our bridal party we’ll have Catholics, a person who’s Hindu, a person who is Jewish, Buddhists, and atheists! We love the blend!

I do not care what religion, ethnic background, political party pretty much angry you are. As long as you are a good person. Why did I change ? Cause I am more atheist then Christian. I guess it just comes down to how I believe and feel. I try to be open minded with everyone so as long as you are more hateful and you don’t use your belt to tell others how they need to live and you are a good person I am fine with you.
We really did not have a problem with other religious groups they are letting us do our wedding our way. Just like if I want to a Baptist or Jewish wedding or was in the wedding party I would let them do the wedding their way.

I will have everything from Catholics to Muslims to members of LDS to atheists and even a Jewish rabbi. We live in Atlanta (very diverse) and both are friends with others based on their personality, not religion Smiley smile our wedding is Christian influenced (we are both non denominational Christians) but isn’t in a church.

Yep, FH is Catholic. I am essentially pagan, my family is a mix of Quaker/Episcopal/Protestant.

Our friends are all over the map, religiously - Christian, Jewish, pagan, Buddhist, atheist...
