Different reception ideas

Shannon, on September 9, 2021 at 9:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 9
Hi there. I’m looking to veer away from the cookie cutter type of wedding traditions such as best man and maid of honor speeches, tossing bouquet, feeding each other cake, etc.
We are not having wedding parties as to keep it simple. I thought our Fathers could make speeches instead and to mix it up.
Does anyone have unique ideas to replace the regular traditions?

We still did the bouquet/ garter toss. We’re 50 & the majority of our family/friends are married or in a serious relationship. So to get everyone to participate, we had all ladies/men come up & whoever caught it won scratch tickets!

We are doing away with all those things also-no bouquet/garter toss, no speeches, no cake cutting/feeding each other. We are having a very small wedding party (3 people each), but no ring bearers or flower girls, or matching dresses/suits. We are making the requirement that all guests are 21+ in order to maintain the party vibe (full open bar all night!). We are hiring a private chef to cook regional cuisine (we are having a destination wedding) and hiring a caricature artist and a tarot card reader for entertainment during the cocktail hour. We will also be hosting an after party once the reception ends, and a thank you brunch the following morning.

I love the scratch tickets idea. Perhaps I can apply that idea to another theme.

We are doing zero traditions at the reception. Dinner and dancing, enjoying our guests, that's it for us!

We are trying to keep the traditions to a minimum for our wedding because we just want to dance, drink, and celebrate all night! Something that we are incorporating is having all married couples dance to "I'd Love You All Over Again" by Alan Jackson. We saw this at another wedding and it was so beautiful!

We are having a private beach ceremony, then just a bbq at our house. Grilling, drinks, the stereo playing, cornhole, etc. I just want to celebrate with our people, instead of the forced, cliche wedding vibe. (no offense to anyone!!)

Rather than having other people give toasts, my husband and I will be giving a toast / blessing to everyone and toasting with an Irish quaiche (husbands request). We are doing cake cutting and maybe a first dance but it will be a little impromptu.
