Did you or are you doing an ice cream buffet?

Mrs. Vitucci, on June 28, 2011 at 8:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Just curious how you set this up? When was everything put out and what was included in the buffet! Plus any other info you can think of would be great, this sounds like fun!

I would LOVE this, as my FH and I are both ice cream fanatics, but in the middle of summer, I can't imagine actually doing it. We've done a sundae bar at church, and I strongly recommend you have a couple of people scooping ice cream for your guests or the line will get long and people will make a mess. lol

Some ideas, besides the typical sprinkles, cherries, ....

Wafer cookie straws, or if you can find them, heart-shaped wafer cookies

    Brownie bites

I would avoid bananas because they get nasty brown pretty quick

    M&Ms

I'm sure the rest of the ladies will come up with great ideas for you!

    Sounds like fun!!

Omg i love the idea... seems messy for a large crowd but if you have a smaller amount of people i say go for it! (i love ice cream sundaes lol) I dont have any help w/setting it up or anything, but some other toppings: resse pieces, oreos, cookie dough, rainbow sprinkles, nuts, marshmellow, caramel, butterscotch... ah i could go on forever Smiley smile

A friend of mine had a sundae bar and we're going to have one too, but I have to admit, the only reason that we're having it is 'cause we get a free upgrade for going to the open house. Whether or not you have it really depends on how much food you have throughout the rest of the night. We're having a TON of food... not quite as much as my friend had, but a plentiful cocktail hour and a 5 course meal. I LOVE ice cream and I didn't get any when my friend had it 'cause I was too full. (I took my cake home too!) I don't mean to be a kill joy, I just want you to be prepared that it might not go quickly depending on the other options you have throughout the meal.

If you do have it, here are some ideas...

Set it up as we do an ice cream social have 2 or 3 people there scooping ice cream for the guests ... have at the beginning of the buffet, bowls, cones, cookies, cups, then have the ice cream next and have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and a few select other flavors then next have the toppings, this can be done by the guests, I recommend using disposable table cloths ...

LOL, thanks ladies it seems like a lot of work but fun. I will thinking about this for a bit. I'm having a small wedding of about 50 people so I'm wondering if I would need someone to man it or not. I'm not sure if I would have anyone and not sure if the venue will allow me an employee to do this (doubt it) but it will be fun to research and do some price checking.

I love this idea!! I think it would work well with a small crowd. Your inspiration looks great!

Since Ben&Jerry's is in Vermont, we considered it for dessert for our Welcome Dinner, but then nixed it as too much work.

It sounds awesome and I would love to do it. Don't know if I will or not but I love the idea!

Someone on here (a while ago) was having a cold cart from Coldstone Creamery at their reception so that's an idea to look into if you don't want to DIY it. I called my local store but it turns out there isn't a cold cart here. Smiley sad

Even with 50 people, you should have a couple people scooping. It gets messy, and it takes awhile with people doing it themselves. We did it for a women's dinner of 40-50 women, and the first time we didn't have scoopers. Big mistake- especially with people dressed up at all.

Best thing to do is hire an ice cream truck to come and set up at the buffet. You have no set up, no cleanup and best of all nothing left over because they take everything with them. FYI: I have an ice cream truck and we have done this at many weddings. It is such a hit and the bride's love it because they don't have to worry about anything.
