Did you have trouble finding a wedding dress?

Whitney, on June 13, 2018 at 9:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi everyone! This is my first post on any wedding related forum! I got engaged in May and dove head first into the perils of wedding planning for an April 2019 wedding.... I'm feeling better about a lot of thr details but now my issue is finding a wedding dress!

Last weekend I went to 5 amazing bridal shops in the Atlanta area and tried on sooo many gorgeous gowns. I cannot say I've seen an "ugly" gown. They are all beautiful. But none of them speak to me!

I was focused on a fitted gown with a long trane and preferably a low back. I got all of that and more and they were so flattering and beautiful but not "my dress."

Today I went back to another store and tried on damn near everything in there including ball gowns and everything else. All gorgeous, still none speaking to me.

Did you have this issue, and did you finally just KNOW when you found your dress? What's a girl to do?
I never settled on a man and held out til I found the one for me, so I damn sure ain't settling on a dress either 😂 Thanks for any advice or help you might have!

Honestly I'd just keep going until I found the one. I am not a dress person, had no idea the style I liked, figured I'd hate everything but I found it on my 6th dress I tried on. You'll get that feeling. Where you can picture you walking down the aisle and you just wanna smile lol so go find some more stores and keep trying haha

I feel you! I went to at least 8+ stores and was soooo frustrated. Hang in there. You WILL find one. Maybe try a different style to see if something rocks your world. I finally did separates to get the look I wanted (bodysuit + skirt). But I really didn't have that bridal moment until the bodysuit arrived and I took it to try on a skirt (LOVED--bought it off the rack) then put a veil on. Then I was all "Ooooooh!"

The ONE will speak to u. I was terrified to go dress shopping. Had no idea what I would look good in but I did know what I wanted and didnt want. I looked online for months but liked nothing. Was in St. Louis visiting my FHs kids and we had some time to spare. I was having a bad couple days so FH said lets go to a shop and just look. Well the first dress I tried on was my dress. Unbelievable, I tried on 4 more dresses and not a chance put me back into the first. Almost refused to say yes to the dress because I thought no way can this really happen this easily. It was double my budget, FH is sitting there looking right at it, but when he said thats ur dress u have to have this dress, I said yes. Havent thought about another dress since. Tried the sample on again 2 months later when ordering and I had another brides mom in tears. So don't doubt, ur dress will definitely let u know it belongs to u. Here is mine!!

I had so much trouble finding a dress I liked in the stores near me. I ended up buying my dress online through cocomelody and I am obsessed with it! I knew it was the one the moment I saw it

I think part of it might be expecting the whole production you see on shows like Say Yes to the Dress. I ended up chosing the 2nd dress I tried on. No waterworks, no big entourage, no video chatting family/friends not present, etc. You definitely may not have found "the one" yet but putting such high expectations on the experience can also be holding you back. Now that you have a feel of what you like, narrow it down to some final contenders and maybe then you can be guided towards the one.

I probably tried on 20-30. I really struggled because I just never looked great in what I thought I wanted. But then being willing to try mom or whoever goes with you’s suggestion — it just happened ! I picked it up last week and was so excited to try it on again!

I tried on three and with three, I just knew. Others say it’ll speak to you and that’s true. Also, come in to shopping with an open mind. My dress ended up being one I never thought I would have considered. Good luck!

I did. Never got that feeling. It’s not 100% what I wanted. But I got it so cheap. In hindsight I wish I would have know about companies like Anomalie Bride... custom made at a fraction of the boutique price. I would have gone custom.

You'll know when you find it. I promise. I was lucky and found mine at my second store. Try going to places with different designers then the stores you have already been to so they can have different things in stock.

    Good luck!

I definitely would just keep looking. I am having an outdoor wedding off the bay and I went into dress shopping wanting simple, no sparkles, no lace...I thought it would be easy? I was wrong. I was so surprised by how difficult it was to find a simple and elegant "Meghan Markle" type dress. Every salon I went into wanted to dress me about in elaborate crystal ballgowns and lace everything. I started to get so disheartened but after all day of appointments with no luck, I desperately called a boutique for a last minute walkin appointment (they didnt have the best reviews so was hesitant to go) but ultimately that's where I found my dress! On a mannequin, there it was. I knew it as soon as I walked in and saw in. I tried it on and cried. Finally I found the dress and cried tears of joy (and exhaustion)! I just got it in and it fit like a glove and I love it so much. Don't setlle! Just keep looking until you've found the one. It will all be worth it in the end!

Hi Whitney! Congrats on your engagement and welcome to WeddingWire! & we are here to help Smiley heart I love your post--- no settling here!

The dress will definitely speak to you, so hang in there. I found an article that might help you navigate the hunt for your dress.

I hope this article helps! It may be a dress that you least expect but as they say... when you know, you'll know ! Smiley heart

Have you tried anything totally unconventional? Are you opposed to an off-white shades/blush/champagne/colored dresses?

Detail-wise, what have you liked? lace, sparkle, etc.?
