Did we just got B Listed!!!!

mallory, on April 9, 2015 at 11:29 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 53

Okay so during my planning stages I remember seeing a lot of post about B-Listing.. I never really read into it, just knew it was a NO NO!!!!

Well DH and I just got invited to a wedding... Though I know we did not get a save the date when they were sent out by the couple months ago. Also the couple just asked for our address about a week ago.

They were invited to our wedding and came to it, and DH made a comment when they posted about sending out save the dates a few months ago about not getting one. I just told him that they had to make cuts somewhere as their wedding is out of town. So now months after the save the dates went out we get asked for our address and get an invite that has to be sent back within about 2-3 weeks...

What do yall think, he brought up B-Listed as he remembered me talking a tad about it last year but idk.

I'd say yes, you were B list guests.

I think it happens.. I got invited to a wedding a week before lol .. I don't take offense really.. some people have tighter budgets and maybe they really wanted you to come but couldn't afford it but now that maybe someone else said no they took the chance.. (trying to look at it from a positive stand point lol)

Probably yes. Although there was one couple we just forgot to invite until my mom asked me if they were invited. They still got their invitation when everyone else got theirs though.

ETA: If it was in town I'd probably go for the reasons Valarie listed, but since its out of town I probably wouldn't go.

Probably b-listed, but you should go and enjoy it! I don't see the point in being offended. You were still invited. Maybe they had to invite all the crazy FMIL's guests first.

I don't think being "B listed" is that horrible of an issue. Unless you are SUPER close to this couple and they are having a guest list of over 100 guests, this is not necessarily so terrible....I would still go if it was a wedding that I actually wanted to attend.

I think you were, unfortunately. I agree with Valarie...go eat their food and drink their alcohol.

I don't think it really matters. Cuts do have to be made and I am sure they are excited to be able to invite you now. We all know how parents get involved and just HAVE to invite their 3rd cousin once removed, well if that third cousin once removed declined they had to opportunity to invite you. I would go and have a good time, no big deal.

Definitely sounds like you were B listed - but most of the people on here who talk about using it do so because they really want to invite some people but just don't have the budget (which we all understand), so I don't think I would be offended. If it's someone you actually care for, just be glad that you were even 2nd on their list Smiley smile

Haha, I can see being offended, but I'm totally with Valarie. Eat their food! Drink their drinks! (I'd definitely pass if there's no open bar. Kidding. Sort of.) Enjoy celebrating with them and realize they probably had a reason for it. I get why B-listing is rude in theory, but I think most people except the etiquette police are laid-back enough to be understanding.

I don't necessarily agree. We only sent STDs to those who were out of town. 90% of our in town guests (other than people like my mom and grandmother who wanted a copy) did not receive one.
